Given Salmon has it in his paper that the Scottish have a right to keep the pound and will do so, should that not mean the rest of the UK should have a say in their independence?

There is no way the UK can be tied like this to Scotland.

Let them go, let them have the British Pound, we will have the new UKPound instead.

And good luck to them. Sooner they go the better.

Don't sit on the fence YMB, say what you really think.
I don't see how they can keep the pound as it is, they can have their own pound but it will have to be an entirely separate currency.
Without the pound you can't have "Poundland". "Euroland" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.
Scottish banknotes are issued by retail institutions under the authority of HM treasury (rather than by a central authority) and as such are not anything other than promissory notes.

it will be interesting to see who decides how much of the UK gold reserve Scotland is entitled to get its paws on.
"should that not mean the rest of the UK should have a say in their independence?"
obviously not or they would

"There is no way the UK can be tied like this to Scotland."
why not? we have been for years

"Let them go, let them have the British Pound, we will have the new UKPound instead." uk pound would be worth less than a euro then lol

"And good luck to them. Sooner they go the better."
agree 100%
I just don't believe the Scots will be daft enough to vote for independence.
if the vote goes for seperation then we keep the pound, they can have the euro, we put barbed wire on the top of Hadrian Wall, and let the bu99ers get on with it.
lol,we can be pretty daft when we need to be, craft
steg I know there are a few bravehearts kicking around but I'm relying on good old-fashioned common sense to carry the day.......

Well isn't that the point of all this, no more ties on either side?

You clearly dont understand how currency value is determined, besides won't be long before the liberal eleite have us in the rotten currency anyway

"And good luck to them. Sooner they go the better."

Agreed on something then, come on get on with it and get yourselves out. You have my vote.

What is intersting of course is Salmon wants the Pound not the EUR !!!
Euroland sound much better to me , everything will be 12% cheaper (depending on the prevailing exchange rate and ignoring commission, fees, ripoffs and VAT on the aforementioned charges)
youngmafbog - You huvnae goat a vote son, unnerstaun?
Goodness me! Somebody went peepee in your porridge today.
Why have goats crept into the conversation?
When independent Scotland applies to join the EU they will have to accept the euro as their currency.
It'll be the nanny state as usual, craft.
Whit's wrang wi' goats?

This thread is becoming more intellectual :-)
Lock all the borders swat I say, keep all furreigners oout.

no that is not the point

"You have my vote."
you don't get to vote tho'
Quite clearly, if England and Wales were to be included in the independence referendum. Scotland Yes voters would be in a tiny minority and therefore lose the vote.

I have explained on here before but if we do the sums involved, independence for Scotland could mean permanent Tory rule in England and Wales. Scotland sends 59 MPs to Westminster and at present 58 of them are not Tories. So, at present the Tories would have to get at least 58 MPs in the rest of the UK, before it can even think of winning overall. Without the Scottish buffer, the Tories could run amok and it would be very difficult to get them out of power. Wales also shows no enthusiasm for voting Tory, so you could easily see a situation where English MPs rule over the rest of the UK.

Its in everybody's interest, not least the Scots, that Scotland remain part of the Union.

The pound is another issue altogether. I can't see why they couldn't hold on to the pound, in the same way that the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands do. The pointy heads both side of the border would need to get together to work out exactly how to do it but I can't see why it shouldn't be possible.

All this talk is probably going to be unnecessary anyway, as it looks increasingly unlikely that a YES vote will be forthcoming.
