/// Oshin and a second man, Junior Tahir-Akinyele, 19, were arrested the next day in a white Mercedes-Benz they had hired for the attack.///

Perhaps they were only pulled up because they happened to be black and riding in a Mercedes?

If it is a sensible sentence then I am sure the human rights brigade will be up in arms and we will see a European court override us.

Yes a Mercedes is different, usually a BMW I thought was favoured.
one oof the comments sums trash up like this pretty well

"Britain of the future revealed.....non judgemental PC fascists see their great dream coming to fruition. Only surprise the sentences. No doubt their lawyers will appeal on grounds they are unduly harsh."

That has been known,AOG. There was a time when a black man driving a Mercedes was a person of suspicion. Black people were generally poor so one in such a car was likely to have come by it by illegal means.Mind, I once got stopped in my Bentley for no obvious reason other than that I was my usual desperately scruffy self and young looking; I was thirty,I think, but young with it;because I didn't fit the mental profile of the officers . Such thinking may bring rewards.
The sentence was to lenient as they will be out after half their sentence is served.

Makes no difference what car was driven, attempted murder is a serious crime, whether you are black or white!
I agree....it should have been a BMW

Interesting! a thread regarding the 22 year sentence of a potential killer attracts just 7 replies, yet one regarding the failed attempt to be cleared at a higher court, of a couple found guilty of refusing 2 gays accommodation for the night, gets 201 replies.

I wonder why this is?
AOG, it may depend on how much nonsense emerges in the thread. I once posted about the Site Rules and got over a thousand posts in reply, all of them nonsense.
Because 22 years is a sensible sentence.

Were you expecting people to disagree with it?
22 years is good news. But this is even better

I hadn't heard the sentencing for that case. Good.
I would double both those sentences. But it's a start.
40 years for a 54 year old . . .ahhh well.
How come it's 22 years for attempted murder but only 8 for actual murder?

Errrr, 14 years for incompetence?
No one died as far as I can tell from the article.
Correction, it was 18 years, for the mistaken vigilante case. My apologies

The Ding family being worth only 10 years each just makes things worse, imho.

Consistency. It's all we ever ask for.
Exactly, hypognosis. Are some murders worse than others? Are the victims worth more? Ridiculous, really.
I suppose it's mitigating circumstances. The Ding family had a long ongoing battle with Du for many years that ended up costing Du 88k.

Bijan Ebrahimi was murdered by mindless thugs for no other reason than them being thugs.
