he won't be any different to many politicians and non politicians, he is towing the party line. What would you rather he say, that he hated him and glad that he is dead.
"When David Cameron latches on to the Mandela bandwagon, remember that in 1985 he was a top member of the Federation of Conservative Students
who produced the “Hang Mandela” posters. In 1989 Cameron worked for the Tory Policy Unit at Central Office and went on an anti-sanctions fact finding mission to South Africa with pro Apartheid lobby firm that was sponsored by Botha. Remember this when he tells the world that he was inspired by Madiba.
The poster in question in question has Nelson’s photo with the legend “Hang Nelson Mandela and all ANC terrorists; they are butchers.”
so you don't think that other politicians of whatever party might have held similar views. How can it be hypocritical, there are loads of people i am sure who didn't like, care for Mandela, but at this time of his death it's hardly likely they are going to gloat. Well some might but it's unlikely at the moment.
In the 80s many people in the UK, Europe and the US believed Nelson Mandela was a terrorist and his name was only removed from the US terrorist list 5 years ago.
In 1985 Cameron was just about to start university and although he studied politics he never did become active in student politics – so was not a “top member” of FCS, nor involved in printing the slogan.
well, Cameron's entered the matter by praising Mandela, hc4361. He could hardly do anything other than praise him, but he might apologise for the apartheid-backed lobby trip. If he's changed his mind (as is more than likely), he could always say so.
There's no evidence of him having anything to do with the posters, though.
wonder if you would ask the same of any politician, including Ed Miliband, as we know politicians like many people change their minds, view points, age, experience does that usually. Not everyone of course, some never change their minds on anything, strange.
