one of the accused over Lee Rigby's murder has described himself as a Soldier of Allah, if so are there more who will follow his example and see this as a war with the west. The family of Lee Rigby must be devastated
having to listen to the evidence.

It would be unwise of us not to believe that there are more self-styled 'Soldiers Of Allah', emmie. Whether or not they would be prepared to carry out any such atrocities is for time to tell. What has probably happened is that all servicemen and women will have been put on full alert immediately following Lee Rigby's death, even when at home on leave. Which is, of...

Hopefully they have been well counseled beforehand.

must be very harrowing though, thinking of what transpired. Not to mention are their more of these people in the wings, which is really what i was wondering, thinking...
Which is, of course, understandable, but after a time, this state of alertness will lessen and our brave armed forces will become blase. It is that sort of thing that these butchers are looking for.

And it goes without saying that Lee igby's family must be very brave, indeed, to sit and listen to all that transpired.
Interesting defense

I imagine that if a British soldier or an American or Israeli were arrestred in Tehran after killing an Iranian soldier they would be tried and found guilty too.

Lets face it all those nuclear scientists in Iran that were murdered weren't killed by jealous wives!

Even if you are a soldier, if you're caught operating behind enemy linesyou're at the very least goint to be spending a long long time behind bars.

Still we all know that this isn't a defense - it's an opportunity to publicise his cause.

Nobody actually thought there was going to be a guilty plea did they? what would they get out of that?
Question Author
indeed, and i don't think i could, i watched the news and the whole story was so very shocking, watching the footage of what they did, talking to the cameras, espousing those words has burned it into my mind, i hope that these two men are found guilty and go to jail for a long time. There doesn't seem any way they could justify their actions.
I think thhe label 'soldier of Allah' is a little self-agrandaisement.

It sounds a whole lot better to call yourself that, than label yourself as a 'cold-blooded murderer of an unarmed man with not chance to defend himself ...'

Doesn't quite have that same romantic 'noble cause' ring to it does it?
Question Author
if you read the link he hoped the police would shoot him dead,
that would have made him a martyr to this skewed cause.
agreed andy...."psychopathic nut job" doesn't quite have the same ring either....
Question Author
AH, no it doesn't, personally i think he is a cold blooded murderer, no question. A father of six children, one just a few days old, i wonder what they will think of their fathers actions.
Soldier and Allah in the same breath, bit of a contradiction for a peace loving religion. imo.
Religion, what a wonderful thing it is. You can use it to justify any action you like so long as you are doing it in the name of it.
I think life could mean life in this case.
I reckon they might end up in secure psychiatric care

one thing about soldiers on a battlefield, generally both are armed, so have an equal chance of being injured, killed, whereas this poor boy was not armed, nor indeed would have been, targeted for being a soldier, not a level playing field. If these two men had gone to fight for the Taliban, A Quaeda that would have made more sense, skewed, but at least that would have showed a certain commitment to the cause, but this, i don't think so.
Question Author
woofgang, i sincerely hope not, they are not mad, not by any stretch of the imagination.
I doubt it, woof.
//not a level playing field.//

You mean level like flying around in Apache Helicopter Gunships shooting blokes with AK47s?

Or level as in Helfire missiles from drones controlled from the other side of the world targeting people in cafes?
Question Author
ummm i agree life in this case should mean life, i would stick them both in solitary, but guess that wouldn't happen.
Question Author
JTP, you seem to have any excuse to dislike, hate our soldiers, i meant level playing field when Lee Rigby was not armed, was walking back to barracks, minding his own business, if he had been killed in Afghanistan doing the job he was paid to do that would have been bad, but not as bad as being butchered in this way. Lee Rigby was not at war with these two men, but they just took their vile thinking, logic out on him, it could of course been anyone...

or Muslims strapping bombs to themselves and killing hundreds of their brethren, let us not forget that.
