Muslim Shopkeeper Protests
they just go back to a Country where their religion is welcome.
Young children out shopping with their parents must have been frightened to death, seeing all those chanting women in Burkas!
I bet the shopkeepers were not to pleased, with only 10 days to go before Xmas, Muslim or not?

they just go back to a Country where their religion is welcome. "
1) Many of them will have been born here. Many of them might not necessarily identify as British, but they may well feel that this is their country.
2) Like many bigots, I expect many of these people will sincerely believe that they are campaigning to make the country a better place. By their own incredibly wonky rationale, they are "patriots" of a kind and thus don't want to leave.
This is the result of religious brainwashing and is but one manifestation of the many charming benefits that superstition contributes to our society. It is also one of the reasons that we cannot simply entrust parents with raising their children properly. Because some of them will raise theocratic fascists like this.

Agreed jno, and yes some children are frightened of Father Christmas (your link), but parents have a choice whether they take them to see him or not.
I have for one have never seen a crowd of Father Christmases walking down the high street shouting, screaming, disrupting the public and affecting businesses, so I don't think you can compare the two!
As for the link from jeffa, I have never read their (BNP) policy's, but at a quick glance at your link just now, some of them seem to be a good idea, and I stress, some!

So? The first one who is arrested, charged, convicted, and jailed for blackmail (maximum sentence 14 years) will, by that, stop the others. And it is blackmail to make an unwarranted demand, that a person stop supplying alcohol, with menaces, threatening them with whipping etc. with a view to gain for oneself or intent to cause loss to another. Loss includes loss of property or money, whether permanently or temporary. It can be argued that trying to stop a shopkeeper from selling alcohol (or trying to remove alcohol they have), is with intent to cause them loss either monetary or in property.
The only defence , the facts being established, is to show that the defendant had reasonable grounds for making the demand and that the use of menaces was a proper means of enforcing it.
Conspiracy to commit blackmail is also an option; that the defendant with another or others agreed on that course of action, whether or not they carried it out.

I wonder if the powers that be know of this stuff, Fred and if they do, do they havethe nous to follow through?
I do wonder if the presence of burqa'd burds would result in a 'hands off' approach for fear of accusations of inappropriate touching of an indeterminate and unprovably gendered person.
I'll be alright in t'morning. :)

Aaw the usual weekly Mail islamophobic crap!
Why do ABers continue to post quotes from the Daily or Sunday Mail to the total exclusion of other newspapers?
Do the subscribers get paid for their publication here by advertising the Mail wrag? Or does the AB get paid for publishing this weekly dangerous nonsense?
British Muslims are almost universally good law-abiding citizens, good parents and speak good english.
If you must have an NHS operation, there is a very good chance that your surgeon is Muslim and similarly the Nurse - would you prefer to have the operation or refuse and possibly die?
What's so scary about the burkah? Are we all cowering cowards - I doubt very much that children would be scared unless their parents had taught them that they should only trust white people who do not protest even if Cameron's rich-first mob are rendering you homeless.
Anti-alcohol protest, a bit OTT for a total ban, but good philosophy as our supermarkets increase the epidemic of alcoholism amongst our young in order to make money.
I'll watch by subscribing but ignore the anticipated insults and anti-islamic maniacs.
Oh before you all start your ranting: I'm a white British citizen, born-and-bred, and am not religious in any way. I condemn the minority of islamic maniacal murderers, wrongly called terrorists - no-one has ever put terror into us Brits and never will. Deny them the oxygen of publicity!
I am disappointed by the loss of our British tolerance and gratitude to our hard-working immigrants of any colour, race or creed. They often do the dirty-hand jobs which are "above" our dole-scrounging countrymen and women.
Yours immovably,
SIQ.

I think blackmail is completely runnable and better than trying to conjure some public order offence out of this. The defendant might argue that the 40 lashes were only what Sharia law demanded but that they were never going to happen since Sharia law is not in this country. I think that's spherical and they bounce. The menace is still there, there is still enough to categorise it as such.
solvitquick, I first read the same story, lashes and all , in The Times. Is that good enough for you? One reason why I don't give a link to The Times is that it has a paywall and the link only allows you to read a little of the story. I sometimes have managed to cut and paste quotes from it, but if the facts are found in another paper , it is simpler to use that.
And I personally don't care that most Muslims are law abiding, model citizens. These protesters are neither. I am not going to stop referring to those who are breaking the law because most don't. Most of us, atheists or Christians or of other religions, don't commit burglary, blackmail, or other crimes. Am I to not highlight the minority who do, because most don't and it would be a slur on the majority to do so?
