Baldric, don't be so ridiculous, my only comment was that the Romanian girls I know filled the positions that weren't filled by the English and they were excellent workers. I just pointed out a few facts. Do you really think that makes me anti English? and I certainly haven't said the English are lazy!

Neither do I emmie, we have been welcomed and we find the people very kind and friendly.

the English didnt apply for the jobs, neither did anybody else, so we had to use an agency to bring the girls from Romania.

so your criticism is unfounded, no English applied, nor anyone else, where on earth did you advertise. And do these jobs pay decent money, are the girls married, have families or are they single and can afford to be here because they are live in staff? i only say this because this issue of lazy British comes up on AB time and again,

as i have with so called carers for a number of relatives, they were not Eastern Europeans but from Africa, Far East, i am fully aware my experiences are small and don't tar everyone with the same brush, but i found them uncaring, lazy and harsh. I have found that care in residential, care homes and hospitals is often poor, having to pick up the pieces for the poor person who is unhappily ensconced in them.
I suspect that Ratter may have fallen into the error I used to make when I first went to live in Scotland, of using the all-encompassing term "English" when what we really meant was "British" which includes all indigenous UK citizens. Ratter, forgive me if I'm wrong and you DID mean "English" only, but I know that was how my misinformed mind used to consider it 40 years ago.
I'm no more worried that we have been with each wave of immigrants coming through and to our small town - we saw all the Poles come in, who are now hardworking in our local area, then the Slovaks (who couldn't work and DID cause animosity, but have nearly all now moved on), then the Czechs - who are settled and working here. If those of our population who can't be arsed to work are threatened by people who WILL work, then they should take those jobs (and I know several people who've never worked in recent years). It's the anticipated crime wave with does bother me, having to have everything bolted down again, if what we hear is true - and we must differentiate Romanians from the Roma people, who are already here.

Boxy, thanks, now I understand what all the hair splitting was about, yes I should have said "British" to keep the pedants happy, either way, in the little village I lived in surrounded by other Small villages there were very few non English people.
I only ever came across one Romanian that was rough and heavy handed, she only lasted a few days and then sent home again.

which is exactly what i said way back in the thread, you said English,
