How do you feel about this, when you yourself are penalised for wishing to take your children on holiday during a school term, when that is the only time it becomes affordable?

Not (only) Pakistani children, not two weeks off, and not during a school term. How wrong can you be?
All the school has done, for all students, is moved the last week of the summer holiday to give a shorter summer break and a longer autumn half term break.

/// Don't understand your energy company analogy AOG? ///
Well that was in answer to your remarks;
/// They should have two weeks in August and let the schools take the other 4 weeks were they like in the year. ///
/// That would stuff the greedy airlines as well ///
I was mealy pointing out that just like the energy companies who don't lose out during the summer month, they just set their prices to take in the loss, the airlines would do just the same

Ah, but you see Ellipsis, that that these children are of Pakistani parentage. That makes all the difference; it means that the Mail can complain, none to subtly, about immigrants getting privileges which we don't get (and how Muslims are taking over, of course!) That pleases the readers and some on here.
That this applies to the whole school, at the request of 85%, complies with the law, and is only the adjustment you describe, has nothing to do with it.

//Consumer Energy prices are not flexed up and down on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. //
*** obviously - but you must have noticed that summer bills are
smaller? ***
You are perfectly correct, but there are some amongst us who are silly enough to think you mean that energy prices are flexed up and down on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
Instead of the more intelligent reasoning that energy companies set their prices on an overall price throughout the year, so it matters not if they don't 'sell' enough during the summer months, they still do not lose out overall.

The original long summer holidays, with schools in England going back in early September, were determined years ago to help families get in the harvest, in the years when harvesting was most people's summer break. It's well out of date now, this sounds like a good idea. Better to give them permission to do it, if it works well with the timetable.

Just where did you get that from? I dont see any complaining by the mail only by Unions!!
If is a good story that many people with children will have an interest in. After all it only becomes a problem if it is only muslim schools that do this, and at present that is not the case.
I suspect if you aksed parents of many schools you would get 80 odd percent want int a 2 week change in the summer holiday. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. (Especially with the Unions)

What aog overlooks is that the less silly among us realise that airline tickets are in a constant competitive flux and selected on a one by one basis with constant competition between providers.
Energy is a contracted service usually for a minimum of a year.
That's why the energy analogy with airline tickets is stupid.
