Just unimaginable thinking about the loss of life in this tragedy.
There are thoughts, obviously just that at this stage, that terrorism may be a possible cause, especially now they have identified four stolen passports having been used by passengers on the flight.
I will be honest in that I don't have much knowledge of politics in that part of the world. I know that there have been terrorist incidents but who could be behind this kind of a tragedy, if it does turn out to be an act of terrorism?

I can't see how it might work as a terror attack: a plane just vanishing doesn't terrify anyone, not like planes crashing into skyscrapers.

I heard there was a thought that the pilot had tried to turn the plan around Eddie.
I find it extraordinary (though I don't know much about aviation) that a plan can just disappear given the size. I know it's a huge area and a lot of water but you'd think these days there would be some way of knowing where the plane was at any time and where it would be most likely to be.

Ive been to KL airport, they are very thorough inspecting passengers etc. with security cameras everywhere.
The Boeing 777 is reported to be the safest plane and has glide capacity of 2hours where necessary. Perhaps Clanad (aber) can throw more pro light here?

As it was 3k miles up & on radar for 2hrs into its destination I cant understand why it cant be found with todays technology. It can only have dived into the sea but surely passing shipping can pick up the Black Box signal?

I expect it's in deep water. I thought it took ages to locate the Air France flight after it disappeared en route from Brazil to Paris. As so far there is little knowledge of a distress signal the most obvious thing is a terrorist bomb or hijack as it must have happened pretty quickly. I can't begin to imagine how terrifying t would have been. Dreadful.
I read something about how it can be years before they can find out what happened in crashed, locate the black box etc...

I thought if they had found the oil slicks then they would have found some kind of evidence if there had been a bomb. I guess maybe the speed is a factor, maybe like stopping distance, that there could be a significant search radius. I don't know what the area is like they are looking in but understand it is a vast amount of water? You'd think there would be some way of tracing them wherever they were.

It could be anything at this stage. Could be terrorism, some sort of catastrophic events such as with Air France or could even be some major breach of carrying dangerous goods regulations. I did think of pilot incapacitation but they are now saying that the aircraft turned back so that is less likely, if true.
