How many know that 'slope' is apparently considered a derogative term for people of Asian decent?

/// Been around a long time, believed to originate from "slope eyes" ///

Wasn't the expression "Slant Eyes"?
Hong Kong expression used to describe the Chinese. The Chinese called everyone else a 'gwailo' (white devil). No-one seemed to feel insulted. I witnessed two Chinese women point at a little girl and say to her mother, "What a pretty little gwailo".
Has the Welsh ( Taffy)
The Scottish (Jock)
The Irish ( Paddy)

Made an Issue out of getting called these slang tearms, what the hell is this world coming to?
I have never heard of the team, but I absolutely believe that Mr Clarkson meant it as a pun.

He has history.

And because of that, I expect him to at the very least to try and squeeze a little racism into his shows, especially in the Far East.

It's like asking the Duke Of Edinburgh to open the Notting Hill Carnival. The smart money would be on him saying something that will set Twitter alight.
Gooks as in "Gooks in the wire" is really Vietnam and a left over from Korea

Frogs used to be insulting fifty y ago and now they tend to be thankful that someone has noticed.

was JC ( earned £24m last y ) using it in a derogatory fashion as in
Let me run down this stupid slope tart ?
[he has done this before - you will note ]
or was he using it in an innocent fashion like

Let me take this lorry over the slope ..... [ and kill him ]

I have always marvelled that Frenchie is not insulting ( unless used about the hartlepool monkey ) whereas if you have a child called Packenham and you should P.... well never mind - you will get into trouble

Scots people still get called Jocks, whether they like it or not.

I think we should ignore any story that includes the words 'Twitter' and 'storm'.

It will have been the usual people who think it's their role in life to be offended on behalf of others. They really are a sad set of miserable gits with nothing else in their lives.
Dave50, just what I was going to say but you got in first!
well I havent heard the Duke of Edinburgh use it
so it cant be that bad
I've heard it, though it's pretty rare. Not a great word to use when filming in Burma. Yes, TV presenters should be careful with the language they use, why not?
I'd never heard the expression, and he probably didn't mean it in that context.

He's still a tw4t though.
I have never heard it and I have been around a bit, I do however agree Clarkson is a bit of a wally.
This is all getting out of hand - soon we won't be able to say anything for fear of upsetting people.

Most people have never heard of the expression. Didn't the Duke of Edinburgh once say "slitty eyes" to someone Chinese?
I agree Ann, seeing as we aren't allowed to call a board that happens to be black a 'blackboard'

What next? What are blackbirds going to be called? Yellowbeaks? No, then the Daily Mail will say that is disrespectful to those of oriental descent.
