A half marathon scheduled for today in Sheffield had been cancelled due to lack of drinking water. The runners ran despite it being cancelled.

Why pathetic? The organisers have a duty of care. Would you want to be responsible for failure? I doubt it.

They could have polled the runners first to gauge their views.......what a bolox up though by the organisers though.

In a country where it has rained so much in the last few moths, for a race to be cancelled due to lack of water is unbelievable. A complete and utter shambles.

of course. but when the runner's welcome pack for the race says "free drinks will be provided" would you bother to take any yourself?

I'd pop into Sainsbury's before the race. Perhaps get a sandwich too in case I felt hungry a bit later.

I used to live in Sheffield and I ran that half marathon route (purely to train for refereeing local football matches), often two or three times per week. It never even occurred to me to take any water with me!

A mix-up at the start of the Grand National calling for a steward's inquiry, an appeal to the umpire because a rower fell out of his seat at the Boat Race and now this?

I've run the Sheffield half marathon, and 2 men collapsed near me (one within sight of the finish line), so I can see the organisers were cautious. When I ran the Nottingham half marathon, it felt like there was an ambulance at every corner in some parts of the course tending to people in a state.
What is disgusting is that the organisers are refusing to refund any entry fees.
