// I wish to say this to those who are constantly wishing for an end to religion, can you ever see an end to religion per-se? If England ceases to be a Christian country, which this report says could happen in 16 years time, would you be happy to see it become a Muslim country? // No. Because Islam is another religion. We should not be governed by clerics. We should...

i am as out of touch, don't get that very unflattering remark
Royfromaus yes it was meant to read Despicables .
just to make one obvious point about Cameron proclaiming Christianity...

Miliband's Jewish. So anyone who sees an antisemitic subtext here is probably right.
I haven't read all the posts, but I think that Cameron is correct. This is a Christian Country, just as Ireland is basically a Catholic country as Greece and Italians and Spanish are mainly Catholic. We have several denominations n England now but what he is saying we follow the Christian principles with our Monarchy and Parliament. It could be said that he is sticking two fingers up to the radical Muslims who are rapidly taking over and dictating their beliefs too loudly in our schools and in the street. Hopefully they will be stopped,

Greece isn't Catholic, it's Greek Orthodox
aog //Unlike some religions pupils are not forced to take part.//
You obviously don't know what is/was involved.

I taught for 20 odd years and to avoid RE was not easy. The parents had to request it and the child had to stand outside the hall , classroom , or wait in the office or with the school nurse , if there was one. whilst the
" communal worship took place ". This usually only affected one child. Who therefore was seen by its peers as 'odd'. I've seen the child of JWs crying because of this parent imposed isolation .
jno I believe Ed Milliband described himself as a Jewish Atheist.
jno I agree there are differences between greek orthodoxy and roman catholic religions but they believe in the same God. Catholics believe that Mary was born without sin, whereas the Greeks do not.

Don't think so. Cameron's Great Grandfather was a Latvian jewish banker. I believe Cameron's words were to counter UKIP and was attacking muslims not jews.
I don't think he was attacking Jews as such (he's not stupid), just sending out dog-whistle signals to those Tory or Ukip voters who might still be harbouring the attitudes of the 1930s, and stressing his own Christianness rather than mentioning anyone else's faith. Jewishness is seen as coming down the female line, so I don't suppose having a Jewish great-grandfather will be held against him.

Having a banker great-grandfather should be, of course.

jno that is a load of botox. and certainly defamatory

to clarify

Religion in Greece, is dominated by the Church of Greece, which is part of the wider Greek Orthodox Church. It represents the majority of the population[3] and Greek Orthodoxy is constitutionally recognised as the "prevailing religion" of Greece (making it one of the few European countries with a state religion). Other major religions include Catholicism, Hellenic Neopaganism, Judaism, Protestantism and Islam.
askyourgran 21:37 Monday 21 April - EXCELLENT post !
Since when has being Jewish been a nationality rather than a religion ! How on earth can Ed Milliband be Jewish ? He says that he is an Atheist. and he was born in Britain. That makes him British, not Jewish !
mikey; Jews claim to be a race not only a religion

It is no I who thinks that, I was referring to the general consensus of those on this thread, hence "Since it Seems".

/// (c) Fanatical murderers asside, Islam is no threat to this or any other country ///

Try telling that to some of the Christians in these countries.
