Camilla's Brother Dies.
87 Answers
It seems so strange that on the news section, we often see various celebrities deaths entered for condolences and comments, and yet the Brother in Law of the heir apparent dies in an unfortunate freak accident but this hasn't until now been put up for similar responses.

The difference between the celebrity deaths and the death of Camilla's brother, sad and sudden though it is...is perhaps because many of us didn't even know he existed.
He never showed up on the radar...unlike Roger Lloyd Pack who starred in one of television's best loved comedies, or Peaches Geldof, whose death was sad because not only did she die young, but so did her mother and so did her mother's partner.
Comparing Mark Shand's death to others we may have posted on doesn't quite fit.
Had you heard of him before yesterday?
In fact, did you even know she had a brother 48 hours ago?

Well, the important thing is you've found a way to feel superior about it.

Also, AOG - you wrote, "I wonder how many of you knew of Bob Goldoff's daughter, Peaches Geldoff?"
I would go as far to say, "Most of us".
I recall you raising a point asking why Isaac Hayes' death was mourned by so many, in comparison to that of Matt Monroe. It's simply because more people who are plugged into social media (of which AB is now part) are aware of Isaac Hayes' and his work than Matt Monroe.
I think the same goes for Mark Shand / Peaches Geldof.

/// Out of interest...had you heard of Mark Shand before he died? ///
No I hadn't but that makes little difference, as I have pointed out he happens to be the Brother in Law of the Heir apparent, therefore there is a Royal connection and it has been widely reported on, so why not on Answerbank.
I wouldn't have heard the name of one of Charles footmen, but if one had been killed in a freak accident, I am sure the story would be widely reported on.

No, I'm not saying it shouldn't be up for discussion...it's just that apart from you, no-one on the News section really cared to discuss his death.
Yes, I agree with you that it was a terrible accident, but beyond that, there's very little any of us can say about it, because we have absolutely no idea of who he is (apart from his relationship to Camilla).

I only recognised him because I had seen the picture of him and Nancy Del Olio and there were rumours about them being a couple. My mother got great delight in announcing at the hospital today "Camilla`s brother`s died - I think he was drunk"! Why do older people always feel compelled to say what they think?

/// Sorry ladybirder, I can't forgive her for the part she played in Diana's tragic life. ///
I would be interesting to know why you think that Camilla had a part in Diana's tragic life?
Yes I admit there was the fact that her husband didn't love her, and sort the attentions of a woman more suitable for him, also the fact that she came to a tragic end, but then one cannot blame Camilla for that, as regards her life after her split from Charles, one can hardly describe that as tragic, in fact she seemed to have enjoyed herself immensely, and had the capabilities to do so, how many Ex's can say that?
