I don't see why the fact that he's Muslim is being highlighted here. He's been a Good Samaritan (as it were) and given a poor person his shoes, it doesn't matter what religion he is (or none).

That depends upon what is being reported. If it's 9/11 or 7/7 then mentioning that the perpetrators were Muslim is highly relevant. In this instance, the man's religion is completely irrelevant. He's just a bloke doing a good deed.

and the thing that does stand out for westerners -I doubt if this is carrying in Dubai - is that he is a muslim,
