Whilst I wouldn't want to second guess the new head of news, I don't think there are 'too many' white male presenters, because on local news programmes there has been a definite increase in the number of quality presenters who aren't male, middle class and / or white.
If you look at news programmes from 20 years ago, and compare it to today, there seem to be a great number of excellent reporters coming through...and you can't simply employ non-white presenters who haven't done the 'groundwork' first.

So I hate to be "that guy", but I feel this thread touches on an issue that went somewhat unresolved in puternut's thread.
Specifically, I'd like to know why AOG complained that the recent tendency to show more black or gay people on television shows is "ruining television." For those of you who missed it, it went like this:
"this type of thing is ruining TV shows etc, where now they must have the prominent black actor, gay character, even in shows such as Catchphrase there now must be a black cartoon character along side such others as Mr Chips, along with black cartoon characters in certain car insurance adverts.
And as for 'Come dine with me' we now have to have black guests, gay guests and even one I saw last night which had a transvestite, WHY?"
I hate to cross threads, but it's a similar subject and of course AOG seems not to have seen the number of people asking him why this "ruins" television.
Any chance for a comment, AOG?
