ah, but the England hotel is handier for the drugs and prostitutes.
London Olympics wasn't so dusty. Have quite a few german pals and they all seem well organised and boy, do they like organising their friends.
Beacuse we are still broke from a certain world wide eventmaybe?
building your own base involves thinking outside the box - tbh, I'd have expected the British to have thought of that rather than Germans, who are not dumb but more accustomed to thinking inside the box. Or perhaps it was just too big for England's budget - they'd presumably have to borrow a lot to build something on that scale, even if they expected to get it back later on resale.
// By contrast, the England team face a journey of up to three hours to the international airport from their hotel, the four-star Royal Tulip in Rio. //

The airport is 9 miles from the hotel. Which is 18 minutes by coach.
makes sense, the germans are probably going to be there for the duration, unlike england

We are not talking Government (our) money here, there is enough money in British football and organisations who benefit from it, to pay for something similar as apparently has been done in Germany.

/// Funded jointly by the German FA and private enterprise, the Campo Bahia resort offers beach-facing villas, hot tubs, a 2,000  sq  ft pool area and its own restaurant. ///

Perhaps Virgin boss Richard Branson, and others would care to contribute?

Could we send Roy Hodgson out with a box of towels to bag the sun loungers?
// By contrast, the England team face a journey of between one and two hours to their training ground – an army base //

The Urca Military base is 7 miles from their hotel. They could walk there in less than 2 hours. By coach it would be about 15 minutes.

The International airport is 16 miles away, but even so how this can take 3 hours is anybody's guess, unless the traffic is particularly bad?

*** The Golden Tulip Ipanema Plaza Hotel is located less than 50 meters from Ipanema beach, 09 miles from the center of Rio de Janeiro, and is approximately 09 miles from Santos Dumont Airport, and 16 miles from Rio de Janeiro International Airport. ***

Hope this goes a certain way in explaining the travelling times.

/// They will also be hoping not to spend up two hours of most of their days in Rio stewing on a coach between Urca and their Royal Tulip hotel base 10 miles down the coast. ///

/// Even outside of rush hour, traffic in the city is horrendous and unless roads are closed to all but the England convoy, it is hard to see how they can avoid the gridlock. ///

Why should British football pay for an English FA project in a foreign country?
Is the German and camp so brilliant?

They have based their camp 1100miles from the stadium of their group matches. That is the equivlent to flying to From the UK to Turkey for each match. By Contrast, England have based in Rio which is 250 miles from their opening matches, and the final is in Rio.
/// and the final is in Rio. ///

do you think that's pertinent, gromit? lol
I wasn't suggesting government money should be used (it shouldn't); but I don't know that there's that much money in English football outside the clubs, and this isn't anything to do with clubs. Others may be able to clarify this as football isn't my thing. But the main problem, I imagine, is that nobody even thought of it, and it's far too late to do anything now.

I don't know whether traffic problems will be less for the Germans than the English; they both have to get to the grounds and Rio's roads are indeed pretty busy. But special lanes were created in London for Olympics traffic and Rio may do the same (they're practising for their own Olympics).
At least the England team aren`t polluting the environment by flying to matches in a private jet. Their hotel looks perfectly OK as well. I was in Dubai in February and was staying at the same hotel as Stoke City. The amount of time they spend enjoying the hotel`s facilities is minimal. They would appear at breakfast, disappear for training/matches and then spend a couple of hours on the beach in the afternoon. After dinner, they would disappear off to their rooms early. Their hotel looks perfectly adequate for that.
Why no picture of the hotel?
Surely it must be all but finished?
photos here - it seems to be a hotel that already exists (which is wise)

sounds okay; nothing special but as 237SJ says, they're on business, not a holiday, so they won't be there all day.
