Should the UK, the US and France get involved in Africa's problems?
The Nigerian government doesn't seem to be particularly concerned neither does the African Union.
The continent of Africa is a very large continent containing many countries, some of which have various problems that are alien to civilised countries.
Will Africa ever join the rest of the modern world or are they confined to living forever behind the rest of the world?
Yes I know it upsets some to hear of criticism of Africa and it's people, but these issues must be addressed not for just us but for the good of the African people.
All I ask is "Should we get involved" "Get involved in a more determined manner" "or leave Africa to the Africans"?

This is about history and lical politics.
Nigeria is a divided country. The North is Muslim, the South is Christian. The former President was from the North and Muslim. The current ruler is from the South and Christian. That situation causes tensions and sectarian violence. This is not about muslims taking over the world or any other such nonsence.
The major development is that the US has suddenly declared that this group is an international threat and has now designated it as a terrorist organisation. So instead of hearing about local squabbles by rival sects, it is now being presented as Islamic Terrorists attacking Christians.

I think this is a good article...

You forgot Kosovo Jim which is now an Islamic state attached to Albania - albeit only because the muslims became the majority, as the old saying goes the majority rules but that does not include stealing a country which is not theirs - but this is what is happening (populate and rule) even though it is not your country. Look out UK.

/// In this day and age the implication that just because events happen in a foreign land they are no concern of ours makes no sense. ///
So you are not against other foreign countries intervening or coming to our country, so as to sort some of our problems out?
Of course not. If we were invaded by nasty beardy Islamic fundamentalists or our lovely daughters were kidnapped by foul extremists I wouldn't say no to outside help.
Would you?

Gromit, you're naïve. Read about Boko Haram. They are not fighting for borders.

Naomi,
The North were an islamic state. Then the British joined them with the South and they were ruled by Christians. They are nationalists and traditionalist who want to return to their previous state, self rule and islamist.
Yes they are extreme in their persuit of their objectives, but this is not part of a muslim conspiracy to take over the world, it is a nationalistic cause like the IRA or ETA.

"The Nigerian government doesn`t seem particularly concerned" How do you know that? I was in Lagos the other day and the governement certainly seemed concerned from where I was standing. I`m very glad that they have seen sense and accepted help from the Americans. 200+ girls have been kidnapped and that is a humanitarian crisis by anyone`s standards.

You keep insisting I am niave, but your only explanation for the actions of this group is that they are stupid and brainwash by islam. You do not seem to accept any historical, geographical or cultural reasons for their behaviour. To you they are just nutters. You seem to be under estimating their desire for independence and self government, and the nationalistic feelings they tap into. And instead insist this is all part of a plot by muslims to gradually take over the country/continent/world.

Gromit, //You do not seem to accept any historical, geographical or cultural reasons for their behaviour.//
You’re right – I don’t. With regard to history or geography I’d take an educated guess that the majority of them are utterly clueless. Education is not their forte – the name of their organisation speaks for itself. They’re not dissimilar to the Taliban’s minions who whooped with joy on 9/11 without having the faintest idea what the Twin Towers were or where they were located. All they knew was that, in the name of Allah, planes had been hijacked and flown into buildings in the west and that thousands had been slaughtered – and that was enough to have them celebrating. You give these people far too much credit, but I don’t think you’re alone in that. Assuming that they’re acting out of anything other than an all-encompassing obsession with Islam and a deeply rooted hatred of the west is the biggest mistake that we make. They’re not. Perhaps you should think about a comment from yesterday in R&S where a Muslim contributor said “you people should accept it that Islam is the truth.” – and he claims to be a ‘moderate'! In dismissing the reality, you are inadvertently assisting radical Islam towards achieving its ultimate goal – and its proponents are laughing at you.

"What are your views then on kosovo ichkeria?, that they are not majority Albanians and muslim. "
Gromit already answered to back up my point, namely that Kosovo is not an Islamic state. Majority Muslim population but secular. Albania itself has a huge Catholic minority. It isn't wise to tar all Muslims with the same brush, any more than one should tar all Christians similarly.
