Fire At Glasgow School Of Art
Can't believe what's happening at Glasgow School of Art. There's been a major fire and the library and museum have been destroyed. Presume many pieces of unique CR Mackintosh art nouveau furniture have been destroyed.
Have any ABers been on a tour of the building?

Jon Snow was there for Channel 4 News re. Scottish referendum survey only a couple of weeks back, but the students seemed more intent on computers than books. I was shown around years ago with a group of French and English Art Teachers all of us administrators of a Franco/Britannic art student exchange programme.
I thought the ghost of Mackintosh hung a bit heavy over the place, but it's always sad when important historical artefacts get destroyed.

I sometimes wonder if the people responsible for safeguarding national treasures have any qualifications in the subject. I suppose a sprinkler system would have not been 'in period'. A few years ago some iron age settlements were 'tidied up' in Northumberland and a library below river level in london was surprisingly flooded.
I can't believe that I am going to say this - I tend to agree with joeluke. It's a building and can be rebuilt and nobody was hurt.
I appreciate art and it is always sad when a piece of art is lost. But I can't see me getting upset about the loss of artwork.
This might seem a bit harsh but its how I feel. Now - if the school's best mouser has been injured in the fire I will feel some emotion.
