Perhaps he would like to tell Tanni-Grey Thompson (she has spina bifida) or the lady at the M+S in Milton Keynes who very competently works the till (and also happens to have Downs Syndrome) that they are a burden on society
While I agree they are nasty comments I think every comment from every UKIP person is now going to be highlighted and the next couple of years is going to be a "dirty tricks" campaign against UKIP.

Particularly from the Mirror and other left wing groups.

All UKIP members have to be VERY careful what they say.

When we lived in Devon we used to occasionally visit McDonalds, they employed a lovely lad with Downes Syndrome, he was a real asset them. He would clean the floors and take meals to tables, that's what he loved to do, he was very polite and friendly and had won awards from McDonalds for his friendly service. He would often sit down and have a chat with the kids, everybody loved him.
To be fair to UKIP, this link comes from 2012. They suspended him and as far as I can see, he is no longer active in the Party. But perhaps UKIP should have passed the loony detector over this chap, before he was outed by the press.
The difficulty with the irreplaceable concept of free speech is that it allows this sort of nonsense to find a platform.

The only way to deal with it is to dismiss it for what it clearly is - the ramblings of an unhinged mind.
\\\\But Mr Clarke said that he does not actually endorse the provocative statements on his website.

"I do not endorse these ideas," he said later. "They are for the commission to consider how best to cut service levels if it is decided to do so."\\\

That is what he also said.

apparently in the USA about 90% of pregnant women who are told their babies will have Down's Syndrome have an abortion. I don't kinow what the figures are here. But I wouldn't swear he's out of line with what people really think (and isn't saying what people really think part of Ukip's appeal?)
is it just my laptop or do you get the same date

jno, that is a persons right! but it shouldn't be compulsory which is what he suggested.
It's a point of view. Maybe you have views he would find repulsive.

Its a point of view, as you said ymb, but do YOU agree with him ?
he was suspended in 2012

> The party said Geoffrey Clark, who is standing for Kent County Council, would not be a UKIP councillor if elected. <

I think YMB is underlining my point - free speech means that the utterly horrible stands alongside the virtuous.
You are correct andy...free speech is wonderful but it also has responsibilities attached.

I am not quite sure why Ratter has raised this old piece of news now but I would hope that UKIP have learned from their many mistakes in this area and weeded out these horribly people before they become candidates in the first place.
mikey as you now know this is from 2012

and in 2013

Free speech does have responsibilities though Andy which is why it's illegal to deny the holocaust in Germany. Some things the whole of humanity should have learned from and this is one of them.
I am pretty sure that when this is identified antenatally,
an abortion is offered. ( here )
DrF...I am well aware that Ratters link is an old one...you only have to click on it to find that out, as everybody will have done by now. There are few more UKIP-sceptic here on AB than myself, but I really hope that Farage has now sorted this problem of candidate selection out, once and for all.
mikey and kvalidir - I am fully aware that all rights come with responsibilities - but unfortunately, some people choose to wilfully disregard such concepts.

Let's face it, anyone who holds such inhuman opinions is unlikely to worry overmuch about the effect his statements have on those directly affected - or the need to exercise the aforementioned responsibility in maybe keeping such views to himself and any like-minded aquaintances.
