DrFilth - my point concerned football hooligans who band together to cause violence and mayhem, and may well enjoy wearing the clothing item we are discussing.
How you manage to transport that debate across the Atlantic to a military funeral with a quasai-religious protest is beyond me - but for the record, I don't view any of them as knuckle-draggers, they are not football fans using flags as emblems of identity and an excuse to batter each other.
Feel free to stick to the debate.

The American bikers have a serious devotion to fallen comrades - a brand new Harley Davidson with the showroom tags still on it was left at the Viet Nam Memorial in Washington, and when the stewards who collect such items contacted the biker gang, they were advised that the bike was there "In case any of The Brothers needed a ride ...."

No, it is any group of people who band together under a common aim - often bonding with similar clothing or quasai-uniforms - that cause violence.
You seem intent on either missing my point entirely, or dragging it into a debate that is not taking place- I am unsure why.

The trouble is andy that you have made dreadful generalisations by posting remarks like the above. It's irritated me because it's just a flag with a hood and I might well wear it to keep the rain out at a game or something similar. To you that makes me a knuckle dragger, when actually I am the first person to stick up for racial and sexual equality, the first person to stick up for the oft put upon immigrants and am in no way a football hooligan. The thing is andy you DO denigrate people for what they wear, which is why people have got bent out of shape with you. It's insulting.

My point was, that the wearing of an identifiable item like this,is often used to bound people like football hooligans together as a unit.
i did not at any point state, or imply, that anyone who buys and wears it becomes a football hooligan, that would be a nonsensical observation, which is why i did not say, or infer it.
I am happy to recind my use of the phrase 'knuckle draggers' since that appears to have offended some AB'ers. for which I unreservedly apologise.
other than that, I am more than willing to debate and defend my position, as long as it is my position as stated, and not an erronious interperetation of what I am saying - vis a vis adding clips of US servicemens' funerals.

kvalidir - I would never wish to imply that you are stupid, and I do not for one moment suggest that misunderstanding and stupidity are in any way connected.
That said, the post from royfromaus, and especially from ummmm who is an AB colleague of longstanding, and who'se opinion I value has caused me to re-read my posts and re-think my position.
I think with hindsight, I was far too quick to jump to the conclusion that football hooligans (again apologies for my previous adjective which I have now dismissed) would be the only sort of people who would wear the garment in question.
I am not normally one for posting in haste without due thought, but I am not immune to doing so, and I feel that is what has occurred here - so I do thank you all for a vigorous debate, and I am stepping down from my defence of my original post because it was not thought through, and it has rightly been dismantled by the posts following.
