And a good morning to you Sqad ! Very warm already here in Swansea.
What should I have done in this instance...given the best answer to AOG ?
I gave it to ummmm because his or her post was succinct and apposite.
I could just as easily given it to NoMercy...hard choice.
Actually, I rarely give best answers, mainly due to forgetting to do so !
But it would be counterintuitive to give it to someone that disagreed with me surely, especially on such an important subject such as this ? Anyway, there is no element of political right or left in this subject, just the cause of justice, which everybody should interested in regardless of where they put their cross once every five years. Two of our most rabidly right-wing newspapers have no doubt about the innocence of Mr Conlon, which speak volumes.

The Birmingham 6 all gave evidence against each other. The main reason they 'got off' was because the police beat them up before taking their statements. I thought them innocent myself until someone who would support the IRA before they'd support the British Police told me he was warned not to enter the town centre that night by one of them.
Of course, that doesn't prove they planted the bombs but it made me revisit some of the evidence that secured their release. I believed, for instance, that the reason they had traces of explosive on their hands was, as the defence unearthed, that new playing cards could give the same test results. But now I'm older and more cynical I think the most likely reason is because they did, indeed, handle explosives.

Thanks Sqad...that is the other reason that I don't give best answers very often ! But it doesn't do any harm though does it ? Its not as if ummmm can wear her award on her chest, like some old soldier !
But I take nothing back...ummmm's reply was as I said it was succinct and to the point.
Until someone comes along with a better one ......

i know one or two people who believe in fairies and unicorns ... so therefore they must exist, right? ...
so thats obviously a fact ... i have no evidence whatsoever to support this belief, and in fact have good reason to disbelieve ... but if one or two others believe then i'd be an idiot not to believe it too then wouldnt i?

Thanks Sqad...my Irish, Catholic background means that I never forget cases like these. The BBC ( I think ) did a marvelous dramatisation of the Macquire case a few years back. A boy of 14 was convicted, along with his mother and other totally innocent people. There is a telling moment in the film when the boy asks his mother what he was guilty of, and she replies "being Irish, that all son" or words to that effect. I have tried to find this dramadoc on the 'net this morning, without luck. I would be obliged to anybody who can locate it for me.
