Just thought you may like to know the recent with Ben. We thought his eys where getting better but kidding ourselves I think. Last night his nose started to bleed..just the one side...the side of his sunken eye. It has been bleeding all night so took him to vet first thing this morning. When I say bleeding it isn ot like ours where they pour with blood it was a blood drip ...sort of mucous with bright red blood. He just keeps licking it away. Anyway vet has given him strong antibiotics and said leave him until tuesday night, if no better he was to go on on wednesday morning to be put out so they can explore further and x ray. I really thought it was the time this morning but vet wants to keep trying to see if it is an infection. At first he wanted to keep him in but I really didnt fancy that over the weekend. Thought you would like to know. Mnay thanks Brenda xx
Thankyou everyone.
boxtops. he did seem a bit sorry for himself last night and this morning but brighter now. He had the antibiotic as soon as we got home so lets hope he will get better on them. I didnt want the vet to mess him around putitng him out and all that as he first said. Thought if the antibiotics dont stop the bleeding then it must be a tumor in his nose. Then wednesday I will tell vet not to muck him around. Fingers crossed in the meantime. Brenda x
The vet will know best what to do but in the meantime this site might be of interest to you -----''collienet.com''
Hope everything turns out alright for Ben.
Really upsetting, I hope the medicine works Ok. The vet will be trying to avoid the exploration work, and trying the medication first. Hope Ben recovers soon.x
Hi all, Well Ben is now home feeling very sorry for himself. The vet said there was something on Xthe ray on his nose and he thought it may be an abcess so he has taken the tooth out. He hopes this was the problem but cannot be sure. Poor Ben still cannot stand very well or do more than a couple of steps. Thing is his nose is still bleeding.? I am hoping it is coming from the tooth extraction. Have to take him back to see the vet in seven days. Just hope this does the trick and it is nothing else. Thankyou all for your thoughts xxxxx Brenda x
Take him back sooner if the bleeding does not stop. Poor Ben must be very confused and wondering what is happening. Without wishing to sound harsh you need to ask yourself if his quality of life is good enough to warrant further intrusive treatment and be sure you are doing it for him and not for yourself. It is very hard to make the final decision but remember, better a day too soon than a moment too late. Give him a gentle hug from me.
I so much endorse what lankeela is saying - your poor old dog. I know how hard it is, but you have to think of his quality of life now. (Having just had a tooth out myself, that's more pain for him. Poor old fellow.) If he had any choice, would he want to keep giving consent to more and more intrusive treatment like this? It's a horrid decision to have to make on behalf of your pet, but if he were mine, I don't think I'd put him through any more.....
lankeela,
Many thanks, Have had a word with the vet and he said he expected it to bleed for a couple of days but if keeps on go back. But I am now already feeling so bad for making Ben go through the tooth extraction as last night and today he keeps crying and looks so sad. Has managed to go out to the toilet but very unsteady on his legs...no more treatment for him now I have decided. If the bleeding doesnt stop that will be decided for him. . many thanks Brenda xx
boxtops, sorry you had sent your message as I was writing mine. As you will have read this will be the end of his treatment if the tooth wasnt the cause. He must be feeling terrible and I am so sorry for letting the vet go ahead now. I did ask the vet if I should go ahead and he said it was worth it...but I honestly think now it wasworth it to him...it cost me £364. and my dog insurance will not pay out for teeth or gums.
