Was very sorry to read about the death of Real Madrid Great Alfredo Di Stefano who has died at the age of 88 following a heart attack. My dad was a great admirer of this footballer.

I saw him in the European Cup Final in Glasgow in 1960, he only managed to score a hat-trick :-) RIP

Wharton....were you lifted over the turnstile ?
Yes anne, those were the days!! Mind you, I was probably small enough to crawl under the turnstile in 1960 :-)
while your hear. do you think the decision of the grand orange order re the '' no vote '' will damage the outcome in September ?, excuse me maggie
this great player could have played for half a season at old trafford but the fa blocked the move

>Firstly he spoke with his greatest player Alfredo Di Stefano and asked if he would consider being loaned to United until the end of season. With Madrid and United each paying half his wages. Di Stefano, to his eternal credit agreed and it was only the unwanted and crass intervention of the English FA refusing to sanction this move that it never happened. They claimed the ‘Blond Arrow’ would take the place of a British player? I ask you. Madness.
I remember when I as a kid back in the early '60s he was the player every boy wanted to be.A sad loss to the game.
I haven't seen what the Orange view on YES/NO is anne, a link? Please excuse me too maggie.
sorry, no link. I googled Scottish orange order, was on the news last week. I would be interested in your view.
Anne I don't think that any statement coming from the "LOL"will have any appreciable effect on the forthcoming referendum in Scotland.

This organisation nowadays is almost insignificant in Scotland, thank goodness.
sir oracle. the orange lodge. I would disagree with you.
anne - I've now seen what the Orange stance on YES/NO is and I'm not surprised. What SirOracle has said is probably true, but if they're on the electoral roll they have a right to vote. Please excuse me again maggiebee.
Anne An estimated membership of less than 10,000 and falling year on year, more or less confined to Glasgow and Lanarkshire, and maybe some parts of West Lothian.

Surely not having a great influence on the outcome of the vote.

. . "Crass"
maggiebee - To get back to football. My team, Partick Thistle, the one and only team in Glasgow, are playing Dundee at Dens Park on the 16th of August. We're coming up there and we're going to.......eat as many of your rolls'n'mince as we can :-). Welcome back to the Premier!!
oh. my father played a few games with partick thistle a long time ago :)
Wharton There's an oxymoron if ever I saw one
. Getting back to football and Partick Thistle. :-)
