If he'd sexually abused the children he should be in jail; but tickling isn't sexual abuse - the kids will be none the worse and none the wiser. Making pupils late for class is a matter for the school to deal with.
He's on the sex offenders register, and I think that's enough.

He's on the sex offenders register because he pleaded guilty to 8 counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13. He has sexually abused those children, used them for sexual thrills.
It could be argued then when a baby is sexually abused but not physically injured then the child has not been abused because he will have no memory of it - is that what you are saying?

if you want to jail people for thinking bad things, you're advocating thought police; and I don't want that. If you treat them on the basis of the things they do, which is what courts should be for, then this one didn't do much.
If I'd been the parent of one of the children, I'd be satisfied with him being put on the register and sacked.

He was doing it for sexual gratification though. Funnily enough I might have agreed prison was over the top once but there have been many threads on AB about inappropriate teachers eg sex with a 17 year old and most people said because he was in a position of trust that was broken then the 'offence' was far more serious. I bowed to superior opinion.

Whilst it's scary that someone in authority is able to gain sexual gratification in the way he did his crime is (thankfully) far less serious than it could have been, for someone who had ample opportunity.
Whilst disgusted, I'm sure the parents are in some way relieved that it wasn't as serious as other offences and could have been far worse.
Suspended sentence and loss of career is appropriate IMHO.
