In a previous thread by Mikey, he made two statements. One was "Labour are popular all over Britain" and the other was "Labour which is setting the agenda for fairness,". The other day I read, and I think it was on the BBC Website (an organisation not known for its right wing views?), a comparison on two families claiming benefits. One family where the father worked but as they had a large family and an autistic child and all the children where home schooled had their income topped up with tax credits. The second family where neither parent worked, father unemployed for 14 years because his skills were not wanted, hadn't tried to retrain in all that time and his weekly expenditure included Sky TV, cigarettes, 24 cans of lager and large amount on mobile phones. How can creating more welfare dependency be a fairer society? As for Labour being popular all over Britain, of course there are voters for all parties in every constituency but that doesn't mean a particular party will get in.

Linda, as my thread below demonstrates, the left love to give free money to WSS so they can have their plasma TVs/I phones/Baccy and booze. Personally I would not give them any cash at all, they should have essentials only paid by voucher.

Yes, and it's getting worse.

All sorts of measures encourage not only financial dependency on the State but many other things as well. The ridiculous "free school dinners" idea of Mr Clegg is a case in point. He sees it as the State's responsibility to feed children. Disappointingly many agree with him. A recent question on the topic revealed that many people are of the opinion that because some people are unwilling or unable to see that their children are nourished then all children must be fed at the State's expense. The deputy PM goes on about "nice, nourishing hot lunches" when it has been reported that many of them are anything but, sometimes consisting of lukewarm mass-produced slurry. Far better is this, it seems, than a nutricious cold snack provided by parents. Some schools have even imposed a complete ban on children eating anything other than the food provided on site.

Most people in the UK do not need to depend on welfare handouts and
State-sponsored services to ensure the survival of themselves and their families. They are quite capable of looking after themselves and providing for themselves if they are left alone (and left with a decent chunk of their own money). Adequate help is available for those who genuinely cannot (rather than will not) do so and there would be more resources available for those in genuine need if cash was not feted on the workshy and feckless.

This nauseating "sheep dip" approach taken by the State to lead people to believe that they cannot survive without State funded services necessary for their well being is stifling the life out of the nation. And this after almost five years of a (so-called) Tory led government.

Well Linda, you are in a minority, this section is riddled with the anti British left wing who will castigate you for not having the “correct” view on any given subject, in time they may even give you one of their names, then you know you have arrived. I'm a leftie Linda ( don't see you in News very often), but I didn't bother commenting on this thread because it was likely to turn into a huge repeat performance of R1Geezer's 'Workshy Scum' thread. If you are desperate for a leftie presence I'm sure a few folk could come on, but really what is the point? It'll degenerate to name calling (oh already has) and be just as boring and pointless as most other similar threads.

I don't know my right from my left in politics.

I have been on both sides of the benefits system counter and can say that most people who claim benefit do so because they have no option.

The ones that the newspapers tell us about are the moronic ones. Most of these people are unemployable.

I get benefits and have done so for about 10 years - does that make me scum?



PS the politicians that I most like(d) were Maggie Thatcher, Donald Dewar and Ann(e) Widdecombe (spelling??)

What the LibDems and Labour did this week by defeating the Tories was an attempt to make the issue of the bedroom tax more fair and that is why it was successful. The Tories failed and the opposition won...sorry that this essential truth is not welcomed by everybody !

Who will get in next May is up to all of us Linda, but dave shows no sign of being able to win at this time. He is still behind in every Poll, and he is hemorrhaging support, even in his own Party. They may be other Clactons before next summer as well.
