''A ban on women attending football matches has been in place since 1979 and in 2012 was extended to volleyball, according to Amnesty International.'' it takes a lot to make my jaw drop but that worked

DT, you know nothing of my life.
I didn't ask about that......I asked what action you are planning.
ag that BA thing happened to me last week. You do know you can change it don't you, by just clicking on another. You can change it as many times as you like. Just saying':-)

Laws are one thing, shabby treatment is another.

Denied legal access, part solitary confinement, 50 days for parent visit.

Human rights card often played contraversially, not here huh?

Yes thanks Ladybirder ;-)

Simple. Don't live there.

Not to mention Afghanistan Naomi.

DTC, see my 1825 post.
Zacs, That's not an option for the women who have no choice.

ag, indeed.
I appreciate the wonderful negativity, naomi, and how downright rude of you. For your info, a friend of mine has been highly influential in Anglo-Franco-Iranian women's rights and if you have a semblance of the academia world in female socio-anthropology, you may have come across her writings, opinions and leadership in the field, especially as she is originally Iranian, a doctorate from the Sorbonne. I might have considered putting you in contact but you know where you can put that now.

I'm disappointed in you - didn't realise that you are so bigoted.
I thought we were discussing a woman who is a British citizen? She clearly had a choice. She knew what a barbaric regime it was yet she chose to disobey their rules and is suffering the consequences.
I have no idea what the answer is to the wider problem. If i did I may be foreign secretary.
I agree on that, Baldric. In many ways, it's the same in the USA as well when it comes to joint passport holding. In short, 'you had better choose - now.'

Naomi, I am a great admirer of your wit and intelligence but of late you seem to have gotten yourself into a few battles where these admirable points seem to have been reduced to shadows of their former self. Is everything OK? (Genuine concern).
Zacs, yes, she did have a choice, but my point is if no one begins to say it’s wrong, when will it ever end? Rosa Parks springs to mind.

Nice try, DT, but your reputation, unfortunately, precedes you.

Does put a slightly different slant to it!

Zacs, thank you for the compliment and for your concern. Yes, I'm fine - but as always I'm perplexed and frustrated by people who seem to have no thought for those in a far less fortunate situation than themselves. That's all.
Baldric, well done! Another pertinent link. Thank you.
