How many Scottish constituencies are there which currently have sitting MPs at Westminster? Recent press articles on the Scottish referendum have mentioned 70, 59 and 40 Scottish seats currently being held by Labour MPs. This all seems a bit confused - will some one shed some light, please.
There used to be seventy-two Westminster constituencies in Scotland and when the Scottish Parliament was set up, it used the same ones but separated Orkney and Shetland into two meaning there are seventy-three constituencies in Holyrood.
The Westminster constituencies in Scotland were reduced to fifty-nine for the 2005 General Election.
