Various people have pointed out that whichever way the vote goes, half of the people will inevitably be very dissappointed.
Will the legacy of the vote be a divided population?

No ludwig. It's a democratic vote in a democratic country.
In the short term, almost certainly it will be a divided population and perhaps an angry one, especially if the result is "no". In the long term, probably not. I'd hope that regardless of the result, the people would come together and make it work.
Ludwig-A good question. Is the division along Religious Lines ? These questions need answering !
L, it's really not that different from what happens at a British general election, with the disinformation, the slanging matches, the lies, the whole motley shenanigans between Labour and Tory factions prior to the vote. Once it's done, though, it's done and we all just return to whingeing if our lot lost.
Yes, I know this particular vote has longer-term consequences, but I can't see it resulting in deadly enmities either.
The larger the yes vote (assuming the don't win) will just mean that the UK government will hand over more power to Scotland.

So they will remain part of the UK but will get more "power".

Probably the best overall solution.
"Probably the best overall solution. "

Yes. Unless you happen to be among the 85% of the UK's population who live in England.
It should be an overall majority of the electorate to be fair, because theoretically if only one person voted that would decide the issue..
The referendum itself seems to be producing a divided population. Alex Salmond said yesterday, "A 'no' vote is a 'yes' vote in waiting", or words to that effect. If the result is a 'no', the issue isn't going away.
Patriotism is love of your country-Nationalism is hatred of others. This is more about the hatred of others than love of Scotland !
I'm voting YES, but should the vote go in favour of the NOs I will just have to accept it. That's what democracy is all about. Scotland is ruled from Westminster and we certainly didn't vote the tories in. The independence question will not however just disappear so long as we have the SNPs in power. Independence is their raison d'etre.

Can't you? the Tories and UKIP aren't welcome in Scotland now.
no,
A nationalist is a person who strives after the unity, independence and interests of a nation. A patriot is a person who loves and serves a country, usually unquestioningly. Hence SNP and not SPP.
Scotland has a population of approx. 5m and of that, approx. 3m are eligible to vote. Sooooo, 3m people get to decide the future of 64m. Where's the democracy in that? The vote should've been throughout the entire UK. It's a very divisive issue and will cause conflict in families on a scale much worse than the miners' strike in the 80s. The slug Salmond hasn't given any thought to the reality after the 18th. He cares ONLY for the yes vote on that date. He thinks everything will just then automatically slot into its neat little place. Dangerous man, very dangerous. He intends doing Scotland irreparable harm. Don't let him... please.!
"The vote should've been throughout the entire UK"

Cameron would never have sanctioned that, as it would have resulted an overwhelming "Yes"!
AOG The Tories were never the favourite party in Scotland but the few will be tolerated as per usual in the future.

The UKP however are a different species and rightly will not be tolerated here.

These statesments will apply whichever way the vote goes in a couple of days time.
Lions and tigers and bears, Oh My!!! :-)....and your population/electorate figures are completely inaccurate janbee.
Janbee - I'm sorry but I have 'lurked' on AB and to a degree have kept out the debate about this historical ,monumental decision for Scotland and the far reaching implications. I have to say however, given you are clearly a vociferous 'No' voter you do not do yourself nor anyone else in your 'camp' any favours by your personal insults not not only towards Alec Salmond but anyone anyone else who deigns to have a profferring option to you. I suggest you 'calm her jets' missus as you are becoming insulting. Now - kick back and soak up this monumental historical moment which neither one will see again. In answer to the OP - nope the vast majority of Scottish citizens will respect the decision.

aye - knowing the Scorts, they'll nayva forgate
According to today's news the two Cs have offered Scotland extra powers and an extension of the Barnett formula if the Nos win.
