Hardly a shock. If such feelings continue one can only surmise that such sentiments may well be reflected in the ballot box next year.
Whadyathink, mikey?

They had, and still have very little credibility and that is Farages greatest problem, after trying to herd the cats that comprise his parties representatives, of course.

/// Vetuste- I'll answer for myself- long term and broadly speaking the far right are the greater threat to society ///
Oh yes and give me examples where the Far-Right have beheaded people on the streets of Britain or planted bombs in the Tube or blown up London buses, and that is only in this country, we could add to that by starting with the Twin Towers, and what is now taking place throughout the Middle East.
Examples of such atrocities committed by the modern day Far-Right appreciated.

/// AOG...I am a supporter of the Labour Party...that of course may seem to be Far Left to you but you believing it doesn't make it true. ///
You may well be a supporter of the Labour party but you come on here with a Far-Left view point, that is of course if Left-Wing Labour is one of the same as Far-Left Wing.
But I would be only too pleased for you to explain the difference, since you and others seem to think that there is no difference between being Tory and being Far Right-Wing.

The Far Right have never been a significant factor in Britain and are unlikely to ever be as the British electorate is relatively sophisticated.
Evidence the electoral drubbing the NF and EDL have received even in cherry picked Wards. It merely reflects the good-hiding dealt out to Mosley and his despised Black Shirts in the 1930s.
The Far Right will always be with us; like cockroaches and scurvy; and like them they will mostly be a factor in the lives of the dispossessed, embittered and underprivileged in our society.
The majority of us just need to contain them, avoid them and let them be the insignificance they naturally are.

Evidence from the OP link of Far Right insignificance.
//Membership to far-right groups, he adds, is on the rise. He claims that since last year, at least five new groups have formed, often having branched off from existing groups to follow a stronger ideology and comprising over 100 members.//
a whole one hundred!!!
across five groups!

I am sure that you, like the rest of us, are appalled at *all* stories of abuse and rape of children (even if you oddly, and I assume accidentally described Jimmy Saville's abuses as 'mere fumbling').
This goes beyond race or religion. I look forward to you agreeing with me, that all child abuse is abhorrent.
(Waits patiently for a response...gives up...watches last night 'Great British Bake Off')

Excellent response from Zuehl (once again).
The best way to defeat the far right is to plough money into our education system. There are far too many young British kids failing their GCSEs and because football clubs now have robust anti-hooligan protocols in place, there are few avenues for uneducated knuckle-draggers to vent their spleen (which they would no doubt spell as 'spein' because they cannot spell).
We should not demonise these young men. Instead, we should look to employ them in roles which best exploit their talents.
There are many car wash companie which EDL supporters could find gainful employment.
I would suggest that they could get jobs as road sweepers, but as far as I know, you need to be able to distinguish one end of a broom from another.

Very nice to meet someone with a respect for old-fashioned values like education and civility, SP. You do yourself proud.
Maybe you could have a stab at answering my question (i hope it's reasonably self-explanatory):
"Which is the bigger threat to civil society in today's Britain: the "Far Right" or the mediaeval cultural attitudes of some Muslims?"

Without a shadow of a doubt - Muslim extremist are a far greater threat to the security of the UK and the West in general. Absolutely without doubt.
However, the problem we have here is that certain people seem to think that scum like the EDL and BNP are no threat simply because their threat is less than that of Muslim fundamentalists.
It's like saying "Ebola is the greatest worldwide health threats...but hey ho, bleach is no where near as dangerous, so I'm going to neck down this bottle of Domestos."

/the mediaeval cultural attitudes of some Muslims/ is, by definition, not a threat to civil society because 'attitudes' especially those of a minority have little or no impact on the majority.
The threat lies in people enacting behaviour based on some of those attitudes, particularly if it involves violence.
To date, those instances have thankfully been few and far between and responded to successfully by the security forces.

You know what?
I long for the day when AB gets flooded with people who lean to the right, and can put forward intelligent, well-considered arguments that stump us that leant to the left.
At the moment, there is *literally* only one person.
Just one!
And he hasn't even contributed to this thread.
So yeah, believe me - I ache for a time when we get some hardcore right wing commentators (something like an AB version of Peter Hitchin or Dominic Sandbrook), but until that time comes...

I pour no scorn on manual workers.
I was a shelf stacker at Tesco.
I worked in MacDonalds.
I know what manual work is all about.
However, unlike BNP/EDL supporters, rather than bemoan my lot and blame immigrants, I studied, worked hard and got myself a job commensurate to my skills.
That's the problem with too many people now - they blame others for their own shortcomings.
In fact, right wing neophytes are exactly the same as anyone who plays the race card.
They have failed for one reason - themselves.
Would you not agree?
