Yes history is important.
More important than multiple choice quizzes, which are so easy to concoct and yet so misleading.
For example doubtless some people, not really having a clue, might have gone for "Vladimir Lenin" (sic) as the leader of the Soviet Union, whereas if you'd asked them "who was leader of the Soviet Union during WWII?" they'd probably have said "I don't know". So someone would do a survey of the answers and spuriously conclude that x% of people thought that he was, when all it means is that x% guessed wrong :-)
