I was shocked to read the orginal report of this woman trolling the McCanns and am doubly shocked by this news report

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2781377/BREAKING-NEWS-Internet-troll-targeted-McCanns-dead-hotel-room-days-fleeing-home.html

I cannot begin to understand what motivates some seemingly 'decent' people to become internet trolls but it seems the shame is too much to bear in this case.

That's exactly what she was doing, Talbot. None of the tweets threatened the McCann's or the children
Regardless of what she said, twelve tweets a day involving the same people for nearly a year seems a bit obsessive to say the least. Creepy.
As Naomi said that's a lot of tweets about only one subject and yes it is creepy. Anyone with that level of obsession is usually suffering from a mental illness of some sort and as such probably wasn't fully responsible for he actions in the same way that you or I would be, either in her tweeting or her choice to end her own life. I really feel for her son as the papers are still rather crassly simply referring to her as a 'troll'- I don't think at this juncture a bit of sensitivity would go amiss.

Don't forget the McCann's don't have a Twitter account so the tweets weren't directed at them.

Many of the tweets are replies to other people's tweets - a discussion on Twitter. Seeing as a tweet is limited to 160 characters it is quite feasible that one comment could take several tweets.

A lot of the tweets were a response to media reports, such as a new book, an interview or a newspaper article.

Compared to what many other people have been tweeting about the McCann's - and look at some of the old threads here on AnswerBank - in the main her comments could be considered 'fair comment' as opposed to trolling.

The McCann's have said they had not seen any of her tweets. Can we no longer give our opinion and thoughts about tragedies reported in the media or individuals that seek media attention?

I do wonder what happened to this lady between the time she was ''outed' by sky news and her decision to travel to the hotel ?
Not if Gerry has his way.
Last week the father of Madeleine McCann called for an example to be made of ‘vile’ internet trolls who have been targeting the family.

As i said earlier, this poor woman probably had mental health issues, her son lived away from home and she was probably lonely. 12 tweets a day is not that excessive, perhaps regular posters here can count how many posts they do a day, sometimes on the same thread? Personally I find this whole McCann circus spurious and its about time the McCanns (well him anyway) stopped this self-promoting exacerbating clap trap.
//12 tweets a day is not that excessive//

Twelve tweets a day involving the same people for nearly a year? I'd say that's excessive.
Middle aged, middle class woman, pillar of society is accused of being an Internet Troll following allegations of unsavory on-line concerning the McCanns.

Incident brought to light through the media.

Accused can no longer face society, so commits suicide.

Seems straight forward to me.

Do I feel sorry for all involved........not really as i don't know any of them.
FYI just finishing my makeup on the sofa and just seen in an advert that this subject will be on This Morning ( 10:30Am Itv1) after Jeremey Kyle so if you have access to a tv then it's a must see though I'm not sure at what time during This Morning they'll be talking about it but they give you the shows timetable at the beginning. I'll record it and catch it later. :)
Naomi this 12 tweets a day will be an average. According to your profile you have made 36408 posts since 2006, this averages 4551 per year which equates to average 12.46 per day...these are posts, as opposed to three liner tweets......Excessive?
12 tweets a day, that's, what, as much as 20 minutes every single day? I wouldn't really call that excessive or obsessive. She had an opinion on a subject and expressed it repeatedly on social media. I think that's all well within the bounds of normality, whether I agree with her tweets or not.
Retrochic

If naomi24 posted 12 tweets a day, every single day on the same subject it would be excessive. However, you're not comparing like for like. On AB, we post on a whole variety of subjects.
This shows another side to the story, and makes for interesting reading:

It looks like she was part of a weird bunch of obsessives that spends all day tweeting each other about about McCann family conspiracy theories, which explains the excessive number of tweets on a single subject.
They're to be pitied more than anything.
sp, thank you. I wouldn’t have thought it was that difficult to understand. :o)
Naomi, you only have to have one obsession on a forum, say Jehovah Witnesses for instance, say something to annoy or upset that is so bad someone complains, It doesn't take much to turn from an 'avid contributor' to become a 'lunatic poster' posting up to 12 times a day, day in and day out, at the drop of a journalists hat. Not too difficult to understand.
What on earth are you talking about?
> Personally I find this whole McCann circus spurious

The irony of that statement ...
I'm replying to your post of 10.21 and subsequent post of 12.51 with regard to describing someone who tweets up to 12 times a day as excessive., when in fact, you post more on average, than this on AnswerBank. I am pointing out that it does not take much to change a poster with strong views on something, into a 'lunatic' obsessive at the drop of a hat.
