I notice that once again Britain leaps into sending troops into Ebola affected west African countries, but refuses to protect it's own people by refusing to screen for Ebola victims at its borders, like the US are doing.

Could it be that they think more about the feelings of foreigners than they do about their own people, or could it be that they are afraid of being called racist for only picking on West Africans?

Just announced othat the gov has no plans to introduce screening.....
ok, we'll just let them stroll in here......oh hold on !
If we're going to screen anyone, we need to screen everyone who has travelled via or from those areas - not just West Africans.
In the 1980s a spokesman for the British Medical Association warned that by 1991 every family in Britain would be touched by AIDS.

The World Health Organisation forecast that 100 million people might be infected by the year 1990, and the Royal College of Nursing in the UK forecast that one in fifty people in Britain would have the disease by the early 1990s.
Zac.........the Medics are not always good prognosticators.

However with AIDS antiviral treatment was instigated around 1986 and has been improved over the past 20 years or so, hence modifying the predictions.

At the moment there is no antiviral or other specific treatment for Ebola and the outbreak is still out of control.

But your point is well taken.

It is more likely that I the UK government is taking the advice of the World Health Organisation, as are other countries around the globe.
Being accused of racism is the thing politicians fear most of all. All flights should be banned that carry anyone from Africa.
Somebody once said, of the fight against terrorism, that it's better we fight it in Afghanistan rather than in the UK. So too with Ebola. Better we send skilled people to fight it in Africa rather than on the streets of the UK.

/// The BSE crisis led to the European Union banning exports of British beef with effect from March 1996; the ban would last for 10 years before it was finally lifted on 1 May 2006[27] despite attempts in May 1996 by British prime minister John Major to get the ban lifted. The ban resulted in trade controversies between the UK and other EU states, dubbed "beef war" by media.[28] ///
I'm sure I heard yesterday that there are no direct flights to this country from the infected areas. There may well be to the USA. Also, there can be 25 days before any symptoms appear. So just who would you test?
