One of the things that I am getting heartily sick about is people who call me on the 'phone & because I cannot get to answer straight away, go without leaving a message & when I dial 1471 '' the caller withheld their number''.
Now I feel that if I am considered important enough that someone wants to talk to me then I would like to know who it is. Can I assume that if someone is using a works 'phone it is designed to withhold their number ( I cannot really feel that anyone would want the trouble of deleting their number every time they ring out ) what do other ABers feel about this ?

cold callers........... ?
I seldom bother to return calls I've missed, unless I was actually expecting an important one. If they really want me they can leave a message or try again later.

Is there some facility to block numbers that have been withheld?
I have a gizmo that blocks withheld numbers.
It is the cold callers who withhold their tel.nos. You probably wouldn't want to speak to them anyway. I know I don't want to.
I'd think, if they want me they'll get back to me ron.

Maybe Anne, but I would still like one of our techies to answer the query re. works phones.

Thanks all who answerd. Please point me in the direction of the gizmo hc.
Usually, calls made through a switchboard (eg healthcentres, NHS departments etc) automatically withhold numbers.

Thanks gingejbee
This is my gizmo, Ron

That seems good hc.

I personally don't block withheld numbers as I find any medical call I receive is a withheld number.

Thanks guys.
Read once that call centre operators ring about 4 numbers at the same time and they speak to the first to answer.

Hans.
our works phones are set up so the number is withheld, which is annoying as a lot of people won't answer withheld numbers

a lot of cold callers withhold the numbers
Withheld or not,as Ron says, they could still leave a Message.
We don't even have our house phone plugged in as no one even knows the number.
My works phone is number witheld but so is my home phone by my choice. I very rarely get the cold callers that plague everyone else and I think this may be a contributing factor.
If I rang you though Ron I would have the courtesy to leave a message!
ron cant you change to a cordless phone that you can put in your pocket ? would be more convenient, my hubby did this when he lost his sight.
