Apparently the local don't want this Sikh school in their nice white, middle class village, on "environmental grounds"...yeah, well if you believe that you can believe anything. I'm sure if Eton or Chaterhouse wanted to open an annex in Stoke Poges, these locals would roll out the red carpet.

But Mr Pickles, the Tory Communities Secretary has overruled the decision and now some of the locals are threatening to vote UKIP !

I have the full Sunday Times article in front of me and nowhere can I find a reference to vegetarianism. I take nothing back from my post. I repeat that if this school attracted mostly white, Christian pupils, the locals wouldn't have uttered a word.

But it is Pickles, a Tory Minister, a party that so many here on AB seem to be fond of, that has had the final say in this affair, and now the locals are threatening to play the UKIP card.

The local MP for Beaconsfield, Dominic Grieve is sitting on a massive 21,782 majority, with the now dead in the water LibDems in second place in 2010.
If this isn't a safe Tory seat, than perhaps Farage is right afterall, when he says that there no such thing as a safe seat anymore.

We are indeed boxy, and I respect that.

But lets not get carried away by a dictionary definition of what is racism or not. Its obvious why the residents of Stoke Poges don't want this school anywhere near them.

Baldric...sounds like a rather good school to me. You would have thought the Mums and Dads of Stoke Poges would be delighted to have such a good school near them, for their children to have the opportunity to attend !

I wonder that if a Church of England School had opened there, would there have been such a fuss ?

Whatever ‘card’ the locals play at the next election, the fact remains that their children are being allocated places in a faith school against their wishes. That’s not racism – it’s parental concern, and I’d be concerned too. I wouldn’t want my children educated in that environment.

I'd like all schools to be secular with religion being taught in churches/temples/synagogues whatever? That goes for clothes worn also. It's people reading 'racism' into everything like on this thread that lead to instances like Rotherham, Rochdale etc.

how long until stoke poges resmbles calcutta etc, once this school gets the go ahead...thats just the start, and in no time theyll take over the whole area just like everywhere else these people go and then whats left of the people of stoke poges can be happy feeling like foreigners in their own village.
