When I saw the headlines this morning I had a sharp intake of breath - surely a woman wouldn't 'excuse' rape?

However, having now seen a transcript, what she actually said was (lifted from the BBC website);

"If he does go back, he will have to brave an awful lot of comments," said Finnigan during her debut appearance on the lunchtime programme.

"But, having said that, he has served his time, he's served two years.

"The rape - and I am not, please, by any means minimising any kind of rape - but the rape was not violent, he didn't cause any bodily harm to the person.

"It was unpleasant, in a hotel room I believe, and she [the victim] had far too much to drink.

"That is reprehensible but he has been convicted and he has served his time."

Ultimately she's right, isn't she?

As unpleasant as this man is, he has served his time, and therefore shouldn't he be allowed to continue to pursure his chosen career?

If my father wanted to post on here he'd post on here- not impersonate me. You can check out who I am if you like as I recently met a couple of other ABers in person. Let me know if you'd like to look stupid enough to do that 'kay?
ps Fully aware of who NoM is.... hence the bloke line
EcclesCake - "Jim, I'm one of those strange women who was brought up to take some responsibility for her actions.

I do not condone rape but nor can I support the women who put themselves in such a vulnerable position by getting trollied and taking off to a hotel room with a stranger."

That's a pity, because for every woman who thinks like you - that a drunken woman who goes to a hotel room with a stange man is setting herself up for trouble - there is a man who thinks it's OK to provide that trouble because the silly girl has only herself to blame.

Until we as a society put out the message that stupdity among women does not merit or condone or encourage vile and violent behaviour by men, then these situations will continue to occur.

If you don;t condemn it, there are men out there who will take your stance as tacit support - as in 'she knew what she was letting herself in for;.

That is too short a step away from 'she asked for it' for me to accept.
As I have said previously - stupdity is not a crime - rape is.
I think it's a fairly common expression but whatever... apologies if you were not implying that Slapshot, just a bit sick of AB at the moment and disillusioned with it.
Accepted, thank you.

Soz didn't mean to hit submit... it's someone who posts regularly says it, might not even be AB, just rung a bell
andy.......your post above....17.50

Yes we know that it is your opinion because you have said it again, again and AGAIN.

We have got the picture....BUT....everyone does not agree with you, you not changing your stance and they not changing theirs.

it is now so repetitive after over 300 posts that it is getting irritating.
OMG andy...you have written another post whilst i was posting and my comment remains the same for your latest post.
Hi everyone, just got in from work so not been able to add to my posts from yesterday. I can see it has been eventful to say the least!

Andy I am sure we would like to think society ..and men....were like that..but in the harsh cruel world of reality it is not..I once had to rescue a friend from a similar position who disappeared from the company and had migrated to a hotel bedroom...was a residential course....I had to drag her out of a room with 2 guys even though she protested she wanted to be there and have a good time ..so to speak.... next morning she was mortified but HAD been giving consent very loudly the previous night... I took that deciscion out of her hands..but at the time she was not thanking me for it !
Sqad - "We have got the picture....BUT....everyone does not agree with you, you not changing your stance and they not changing theirs."

I am aware of that Sqad - I've been on AB long enough to figure that out."

"it is now so repetitive after over 300 posts that it is getting irritating."

Irritating? i am not irritated in the slightest.

If you are, feel free not to re-visit or re-post.

Myself, and those who are equally unirritated will meanwhile continue to exchange our views.

Sorry you won't be joining us.
Andy....if I was helping out a drunken man I'd bumped into in the street I'd either a) Offer taxi fare, or b) Sit with them in the foyer.

I would certainly not take them to my room...

No you are not.

My last throw of the dice.
murraymints - "Andy I am sure we would like to think society ..and men....were like that..but in the harsh cruel world of reality it is not.."

I am not so naive as not to think that a proprtion of my gender think that a tipsy stranger is fair game for an assault.

The reason why I am banging on with my point of view is that, in small actions, big changes start.

As I opined earlier in the thread, if everyone accepts things, they will always stay the same.

Just one day, Rosa Parkes stopped accepting that she had to give up her seat and move to the back of the bus.

That is now society evolves - because enough people say enough times that something is not the way it should be, and eventually society sits up and agrees, and a change occurs.

So no, it's not good enough to say 'this is how it is ...'.

It is not good enough at all.
kvalidir you do not do yourself any favours. My comment about dummies was light-hearted and meant to lighten up the mood. You telling me to shove them in whatever orifice is both crude and extremely rude. You continue to be excessively rude when anyone disagrees with you and its now bordering on 'spoilt brat' syndrome. I'm declining any further comment and shall exit to polish my dummies ;-)
sorry I pressed submit (I had to go and collect something from the garden) before i finished by saying 'and God forbid that this should happen to her or anyone else whatever their age. that's all.
ummm - Andy....if I was helping out a drunken man I'd bumped into in the street I'd either a) Offer taxi fare, or b) Sit with them in the foyer.

I would certainly not take them to my room... "

I'm not sure what your point is.

As a woman, a semi-concious drunk man is probably not your idea of a fun companion.

But for some men - and this man in particular, a semi-concious drunk woman represents an opportunity for a little univited (but hey, she's here isn;t she? She must be after it...) sexual asault.

So the two scenarios don't really match up, do they?
if only Andy. if only !
murraymints - "if only Andy. if only !"

Is that the same as - "If only i didn't have to give up my seat to a white person?"

That's a short step to "I won't - let's see what happens ..." isn't it?
if only the world could change like that...if only...
