Somebody's going to start the discussion, so as might as well be me!

I'm happy to support the idea but it's not something that I feel strongly enough about to join public demonstrations or write to my MP. Also, I'd prefer it to come about through national legislation, rather than leaving smokers to check individual rules for each park or public space that they visit.

/// The Leader of UKIP wants to roll back the smoking in public places laws
Farage, the chain-smoking Leader of UKIP ?.....well, you could have knocked me over with a feather ! I simply can't believe it ! ///

Yes I suppose it is hard for you to believe, especially from a person who's politics would wish to control the freedom of the people and of it's press, if it happens to contradict with the parties political agenda.
Whereas comparing the cancer-causing properties of inhaled tobacco smoke to the aromas of beer and kebabs is not daft in the slightest. ..
AOG...smoking wan't banned in public places in England until 2007. Surely even you can remember back 7 years.

Millions of people in Britain don't smoke today, and almost as many people didn't smoke 7 years ago, and to suggest that nobody complained can't possibly be true. I still maintain its a daft to suggest.

Any body else on here today, apart from me, that complained about smoking in Pubs, restaurants, etc 7 and over years ago ?
many many times Mikey.

It was merely a comparison on the matter of banning things, but I noticed you chose to ignore my more valid concern on traffic pollution.

What are your thoughts on this should we ban the internal combustion engine?

For a hell of a lot longer than the last 7 years Mikey!
If the internal combustion engine were banned, what would you replace it with?

Who mentioned 7 years ago, I was talking about much longer than that, one doesn't just complain about something after it's been banned, and I repeat I can never remember even 70 years ago hearing anyone complaining as they sat in the cinema or in the theatre, and if someone suggested banning smoking in pubs they would be have been thrown out, in fact pubs had their own 'Smoke Rooms' but they could also use the Lounge or Bar.

Perhaps they should introduce 'non smoking rooms'?

Never heard of electric powered vehicles?

///Perhaps they should introduce 'non smoking rooms'?///

I've got a better idea, aog. Sling them out in the fresh air. After all, they love it.
I've never smoked and to be honest I hate it but... I have no objections to people smoking outside... I supported the bans in pubs and restaurants and
the workplace but lets not go too far
I stopped smoking two years ago so it won't affect me personally, however, smoking outdoors is likely to have little to no effect on anyone who doesn't smoke so I don't think government should be legislating on this issue.
I have heard of electric powered vehicles but how many decades would it take to replace every vehicle on the road? How many decades would it take to set up the national infrastructure to support the required re-charging of those cars? What would happen about folk coming into this country, would their cars be banned?
Ok so I admit it, I'm a non smoker and always have been so I'm therefore rather biased. I think smoking should be banned in ALL public places.
TTT - I agree that smoking rooms wouldn't work. You would more than likely still get smoke drifting into other areas. Mr Farage probably came up with this idea because he likes a smoke with his pint.
Ban it. I don't mind as I don't smoke at all.
I'd never go in the local park for a fag............it's full of druggies and alkies.
One of the chaps at work went to see his relatives in India last year, and was given an instant fine for smoking in the street, which he wouldn't have minded so much if people weren't having a poop on the street corners!
So they ban smoking in pub and restaurants (im a smoker and agree), but they want to ban it in a wide open space where it will do nobody any harm but the smoker, ask your selves this question how many cases of you heard of of a SOBER smoker attacking and beating someone up yet this is the number of admissions due to alcohol, 10 million per year

http://news.sky.com/story/1353156/nhs-alcohol-related-admissions-near-10-million

I wonder what the number is for smoking related admissions.
