Why is this acceptable and Mike Read's song is not? Take a listen to Ricky's lyrics, let alone fake Caribbean accent

Mike Read banned his own song, and Ricky Gervais didn't.

Apaet from that, little difference.
Prob only just because one involved UKIP, and nothing more. Certain types feeling outraged and exercising their daily right to call some one a racist. (I haven't listened to any)

It may be because Ricky Gervais has 'currency' in comedy stakes, and this video is actually quite funny (in my opinion).

from the song:

Black people aren't crazy
Fat people aren't lazy
And dwarves aren't babies

Those lines made me laugh out loud.

Thank for posting the clip. I'd never even heard of it.

I think that the reason why this didn't receive the same reaction as Mike Read's opus is because Ricky Gervais is playing a character. His character is a bit of an idiot and would see nothing wrong in singing in a cod West Indian accent, because the character of David Brent is a bit of an embarrassment.

Mike Read wasn't playing a character - he was being himself.

Another thing to consider is that Ricky Gervais is a genuinely popular comedian, who has far fewer detractors than UKIP.

No matter how popular Farage and UKIP become, they will always be millions of people who think that they are nothing more than simple-minded xenophobic middle Englanders.

That is very likely an unfair summarisation of the party, but nonetheless, this is how a lot of people see them, and they will leap at the chance of criticising them whenever they can.

This is politics.

It can (and should) be rough.
Millions sp? I didnt think there were that many right on lefties around.
This would truly be equality if the black kids who were most likely educated in our English schools spoke or rapped in a true English accent, then the likes of Ricky Gervais would not need to voice in an mock Caribbean accent, so as to simulate with them.
The difference is that Gervais is playing the role of a misguided buffoon (David Brent) who'd release this kind of thing, whereas Mike Read actually is a misguided buffoon who actually has released this kind of thing.
Awaiting the police to come round and arrest me and my young son for having a laugh at Peruvians. For Goodness sake, will bloody lefties get a life.

I've explained this to you before, but I am more than happy to explain once again.

Black British kids rap in a specific English brogue. It is not in any way 'West Indian'.

You need to got to YouTube and watch this video from about 17 seconds in:

http://youtu.be/c2MiyZx8MTY

This is the accent that English rappers use. It's not a West Indian accent - it's an English accent.

You need to compare that to, say, someone like Shaggy - who really does have a West Indian accent.

I'm not sure why you can't hear the difference.

To me, it's like confusing a Belfast accent with a Sydney accent.

I find your confusion quite quaint.
