It might look quite cuddly and very patriotic, with its images of the Queen, poppies and suchlike but its the same tired old band of Fascist thugs, for whom Asians are the new Jews. I have warned about the rise of the Far Right on AB before, especially in Europe but these Fascists are marching in Britain, not Berlin. We ignore these racist thugs at our peril.

With the greatest of respect Andy, that is exactly what these thugs are relying on...complacency.
The rise in social media is changing the world, whether we like it or not. People are now receiving trash about "Britain First" in their Facebook, Twitter, etc accounts every day. Those amongst our population that are less discerning and more gullible, are being taken in by this outfit, because they seem so innocent at first sight. They campaign on animal cruelty and abortion but in effect they aren't the slightest bit concerned about those topics, but use them to reel-in the credulous. They are also extremely violent, as can be seen from the Wiki entry.
Its the same old, same old....we seems to have learned nothing from the days when Mosley was active. This lot recruit in exactly the same way as he did, and from the same sector of our society. They haven't got the support of the Daily Mail like the British Union of Fascists did yet but who knows what they will achieve in the future.

It's not compacency - it's a cursory examination of recent histtory which has shown that the Far Right periodically gets the media's knickers in a twist, and documentaries are made and broadcast, and newspaper columnists warn us darkly of the 'rise of the far right ...' - and everything stays exactly the same.
Democracy means tolerating the lost, the terminally block-headeded, the fantasists, the idiots, the hard-of-thinking - and all of those gravitate towards the far right, and what difference has it ever made to the makeup of our society - none whatsoever.
The British Far Right are like the monkeys in the zoo - fine for an occasional visit to laugh at some of the unpleasant things they do with their faeces, but not something you'd concern yourself with on a daily basis.

// Ludwig...without a doubt, the Far Right IS on the rise //
People have been saying that as for as long as I can remember Mikey. It never amounts to anything other than a bunch of thugs that never threaten to be anything other than that. They eventually fizzle out and re-emerge under a different name...see EDL, BNP, and NF.

Mikey, I remember one time I spent a couple of hours on a bus trip through Tennessee. I had a fascinating conversation with the guy next to me.
His uncle was a Grand Wizard in the KKK. I remember thinking - thank God that'll never happen in the UK.
But then, such thinking is not so entrenched here as it is in the Southern. States. Let's hope it never is.

agchristie - "Andy, I agree, the benefits of the internet are colossal but there are some dangerous drawbacks, too numerous to mention and I don't wish to divert Mikey's thread."
Nor I, but I must agree also with Ludwig's assessment of the impact of the Far Right.
I remember growing up with the Cold War, and how Russia's threat to vapourise the planet was all-encompassing, and there were endless Ban-The Bomb marches, and CND shouting from the rooftops, and in the end, it just all went away.
I honestly believe in the inherent good sense and overall goodness of the majority of the population of this planet of ours, and although the UK media is increasingly mimicing its American counterpart and turning 'news' into scare-mongering, I believe that the majority of the people will prevent any take-overs by any group of any kind that would wish to create a fundamental change in the way we like to live.

I think that it is easy to imagine that the sort of shock and horror with which tales of such individuals and organisations are heard translates into an unfounded fear that these people have any sort of real power, or far-reaching effect.
The fact is that The Klan, like our Far Right, are just a bunch of small-minded, but big-voiced inadequates who have no meaningful power or impact.
The noise they make is inversely propotionate to the listening it receives.

Stalin was far left wasn't he?
So how come we only ever hear of the threat of the "far right".
Would the lefties rather someone like Stalin was in power.
Because in my eyes Stalin was more of a "looney" than Hitler was.
Of course if the "left" under Blair and Brown had not opened the door to mass immigration we would not see the rise of the "far right" in the UK.
But it is never the fault of the left is it.
