There’s no suggestion that one is better than the other – just different. The fact that most of the men involved are of Pakistani origin indicates a pattern – and there is a pattern – their culture. They don’t target pre-pubescent children - to them, girls of 11, 12, 13, etc., are of marriageable age so these men are not paedophiles in the usual sense.

Aligning these people with the Jimmy Saviles of this world conceals the real issues. The Police played down the racial element, but it is most certainly relevant. Baroness Warsi is right in saying that “you can only start solving a problem if you acknowledge it first”, and as distasteful as it might be for you and Mikey and jno to acknowledge it, culture is intrinsic to this particular problem.

It is not unsavoury for me to acknowledge that groups of British Pakistani/Pakistani/Muslim men target young girls for sex. What I refuse to do is accept that only those men behave in that way. There are plenty of Muslims who have been speaking out against this and the publicity of it coincides with the publicity of the sexual abuse of children as a whole, much of going back decades.
I also refuse to believe that this problem has been covered up due to fears of accusation of racism. Child grooming and sex abuse has been covered up for many, many years regardless of the profile of the offenders.
As I said, this type of grooming and sexual abuse was going on in the early 1970s to my knowledge and the offenders were not of Pakistani origin or Muslim. I knew girls barely in their teens who were pimped out by their 'boyfriends' but as they were not prepared nor supported or encouraged to speak out nothing was done. There was no public outcry then nor prosecutions.
There has been both a deliberate cover up by the authorities and lack of public concern about this abuse for generations. Mark Williams-Thomas and people like him have vigorously campaigned for public awareness and we should be grateful that finally something is being done against offenders regardless of their ethnicity and religion.

My wife was deputy head teacher in a Catholic Primary school with a majority Muslim intake.
On a Monday morning at PE lessons, she would observe the welts on the feet of young boys who had been beaten on their feet in the mosque for not knowing their Koran verses.
Despite repeatedly advising Social Services and Child Protection, nothing was done, because both those organisations refused – and were not shy to confirm that they refused – to get involved with matters involving local mosques – they were a no-go area.
Believe it.

Naomi...all the white people that I mentioned "groomed" their victims, and over a considerably longer period that recent events amongst the asian community. Jimmy Savile was at it for nearly 60 years, unchecked and actually aided and abetted by organisations like the BBC and the NHS. This is why my analogy works. If these mostly, Taxi drivers in Rotherham, etc, had been white Taxi drivers, most people wouldn't have given it another thought and its unlikely that we would be debating it now.

I can see three sets of people described here. The first set includes those people like AOG (and me, for that matter) who are bleating about the Rotherham grooming. The second set consists of people who KNEW about any of the other cases of abuse you mention, AND said nothing. Set three consists of people who sit on those honours committees who dish out knighthoods and MBEs.
You do see that your accusation of hypocrisy can only be justified if every member of the first set belongs to both the others, don't you?
