Well heres one that's retiring at 71 years old. Look out for a Lordship coming his way in the new years honours list !.
Well our local MP is in his late 70s, and is standing again.

I fear he is too old, and it is one of the reasons I won't be voting for him.
(along with him having had his snout deep in the expenses trough)
He seems a decent type(for an MP) to me, tony.
I agree with that, Svejk. Now that he's retiring that is.
Yes. He should only be allowed to grow to a certain age. He'll obviously be put to death on the appropriate birthday.
Churchill retired from the Commons at age of 90, 3 months before his death.
I expect Macmillan is still creeping around. ;)
No, Macmillan retired at the age of 70 but lived till he was 92.
god, he used to look ancient to me back then. 70 is no age now,,,,,,,,,,i hope.
My local MP, the redoubtable Dame Irene Ward, retired at the age of 79, much against the wishes of her constituents.
They should be retired at 65, those who refuse to go (snouts deep in the trough) should be shot.
Perhaps the question should be "Should we have politicians below the age of 40"

Anyone younger has not enough experience of life skills.
Churchill was fairly old when he led us through the war.
Seriously, AOG?

Pitt the Younger wouldn't have stood a chance in hell in AOG's world. PM at 24 and a brilliant exponent in setting up the future Empire's administration, never mind his role in what proved to evolve into Metternichian politics of that era as to Europe.
Yes I'm with AOG on a lower age limit. Many of the younger MPs appear to have less sense than they were born with. However, whether that will improve as they age is arguable.

Recent legislation prevents employers from discriminating on age grounds and in particular dismissing a person simply on the basis that they have reached (say) 65 is now much more difficult. So they can hardly start to impose age restrictions in the House of Commons.

"a brilliant exponent in setting up the future Empire's administration",

Blimey such admiration is unbelievable, in 2014's Britain he would now be castigated for such a 'racist' action.
all part of the evolution of society, AOG; after all slavery was only abolished by Britain after he had expired (1806), just one example of what was accepted then.
