Ms Sturgeon is asking the Scots to vote SNP and ditch Labour. But she has also said that she will never do a deal with the Tories, if they need help with a coalition again. Mixed messages perhaps ?
Or a secret message for Ed here ?

'"Scotland did vote Labour at the last general election, but we still ended up with the Tories - and if the people of England vote Tory again next May, it won't matter how we vote." My street voted for the Tories in 1997 and looked what happened to us. I'm afraid Ms Sturgeon must accept that, less than two months ago, the Scots voted, by quite a substantial margin on...

All I can say is that if the SNP and that shouty little man had made a good enough case for independence, they would have won the referendum. But they didn't. If you are going to ask people to change from the status quo that has worked perfectly well for over 200 years, you have to give them a really good reason for doing so, and the SNP clearly failed.
But, like any other minor party at Westminster, they have to justify why they are there, and that is why wee Nickie may very well do a deal with Labour, for the same reasons that the LibDems did a deal with the Tories in 2010.
Its short-man complex...you have to make that bit more noise to get noticed.

Dear dear me. Despite the panic being shown by many of the little Englanders on this thread,Scotland has settled down post referendum.
We will not be moving the goalposts in seeking a further vote in the near future, unless :
1 The promises made by the three main parties are not implemented quickly and fully.
and
2 Westminster decide (after a Tory referendum) to leave the EEC.

sir oracle, in his valedictory speech yesterday, Mr Salmond said that he considered the "no" vote in the referendum meant "not yet", not no. ms sturgeon said something similar in her speech. both have also said that a re-run referendum would likely be a condition of any coalition agreement after the next general election.
"What law are you referring to, Douglas?"

Yes it was I who used the expression little Englanders.
Perhaps I should have used the word "Xenophobe" which Chambers defines as "a person who fears or hates foreigners or foreign things".
Seems to me that quite a few on this site fall into this category, voicing support for the UKP.to name but one example.

Sir Oracle...I would agree with your last comment and have said so myself on many occasions. But it really isn't germane to my thread is it ? It is looking increasingly as if the SNP may be instrumental in the outcome of next years General Election, either by a coalition with Labour, or by taking valuable Labour seats from Westminster, thus making a Tory win more possible.
As Scotland is a nation that shows no love for the Tory Party, it would be ironic indeed if the actions of its nationalist party were to hand dave the election on a plate.

The SNP seems to have learned the lessons that the LibDems are about to be so harshly reminded of. The Left really, really hates the Tories and don't forgive anyone who so much as thinks of doing a deal with them. Sturgeon would be wise to stick to her principles, if indeed 2015 sees the SNP hold the balance of power, and refuse to touch coalition with a 10-foot caber.
As the referendum failed so utterly, I can't really see the point on voting SNP in Westminster elections. The Scottish Government perhaps.
Its similar to Plaid Cymru here in Wales. Local councils and the Welsh Assembly OK but a complete waste of time sending any of their MPs to Westminster. Wales, like Scotland hate the Tories in the main, so why not vote Labour ?

The referendum might have gone against the SNP but that's about the only thing that did! Labour's support has fallen away, SNP's has skyrocketed, the Tories were doing pretty badly anyway and it's likely to get worse, and the LibDems... well, it's not clear that they have any future anywhere.
It partly stems from that overly panicky reaction from Westminster to deliver powers to Scotland fast. Stupid promise, but now that it's made it will either be kept, in which case many people will trust the SNP to keep forcing Westminster's hand to get a better deal for Scotland; or it will be broken, in which case the SNP wins by default. Either way, the SNP is the big winner from the recent months of Scottish politics, and mewing on about how they lost the referendum is missing the point bigtime.
