ummmm,

How could the headlines cause her death?
cassa - she became "too hot to handle"?
// How could the headlines cause her death //

As bednobs suggests ...

Thousands of children go missing every year. Why would this one be different?

And then, whoever has Maddie, finds that she is the focus of the world's media attention, and everyone on the planet knows her face.

There is a serious risk, in that situation, that they would have decided to "dispose of her".

Tragic if that did happen, but a real risk nonetheless.
She's easily identifiable by her eyes.

It would be easier to kill her.

I don't think the police are too keen on media appeals because they get absolutely swamped with 'leads' that all have to be followed up. Of course, if they've come to a dead end in a case they have to endure them.
No...whilst 'thousands of kids' go missing every year, it's not toddlers or very young kids.

When that happens it's a huge news story.

The thousands that go missing are teenagers, and their stories barely make a ripple news-wise.

It is absolutely not true that thousands of young children simply go missing every year. Child abductions still make headlines.

And AOG - are you serious about not knowing the Shannon Matthews story?

That is incredible.
Totally 100% agree with BOO's first post.

Of course it is more serious when a toddler goes missing, they are defenceless infants who cannot look after themselves.

Whereas teenagers are always going missing simply because they refuse to honour house rules, had had a row with their parents, and are under the misguided impression that the grass is greener on the other side of the hill, and that they can make it big in the big city.
