Given what's been happening in Syria of late, combined with the recent charging of 2 males with preparing to kidnap and behead a random citizen from off the street I'd reason that they were more than justified, I don't really see why it's a question to be raised.

And I'm surprised you've never heard of such a thing. You were around in the 70s when servicemen were warned not to wear their uniforms when not on duty, right?
It was a big deal at the time.

It was widely reported last night that officers were called in from their shifts, that is defiantly a first, to see our law enforcement officers brought in off the streets to gather in their stations.
Has it come to a situation that it is not safe for our police on the streets of the UK, what next our fire-fighters our ambulance staff?
This would be like saying when our troops were in Afghanistan stay in Camp Bastion or you may get blown up.
That is why I raised this question, should they have been right to take this course of action, is this what the terrorists want?

Yes that is perfectly good idvice, no one can dispute that, but as I have already said this was not what was first reported, it was the fact that last night the West Midlands police had been recalled back to their stations as a precautionary measure

Surely they were called off their shifts to be given this urgent safety warning?
It's not as if they are permanently taking police off the street. They are bringing frontline staff up to date with the latest security measures which are being put in place to better protect them.

The officers were called in for briefings, nothing unusual there.
The WMP spokesperson said:

all the forces were made to travel around the city in mufti
and those in uniform were ferried around in....ambulances

automatic machine gun fire was heard across the river Lee.
My my those were interesting time in which to live....

World War 2 - Belgian and Dutch resistants were burning holes in Gernan uniforms as they travelled hither and thither in Belgiuim and Holland of course on the buses. So cigarettes were banned.
So they started carrying around acid.
So carrying acid on a bus was made a capital offence.
and then I think they told them to wear mufti again.

Because at the height of the terrorist attacks in England, I or none of my comrades were ever told not to wear our uniforms in fact it was encouraged.

Because in the event of a terrorist incident they had standing instructions to lock down. That meant they sealed the doors of their headquarters and refused to come out - or answer the phone
I am willing to be reproved and chided if I have got that wrong.
hence all the accounts ..... dont mention them even tho one bomb went off about 50 m from their headquarters.
I am not sure if taking the police off the streets because some others have guns is the way forward. In Manchester we would never see them in that case
