This year 46 Policemen were shot dead last year 52,000 were assaulted.
When a US Policeman deals with any incident he knows one mistake could mean he never makes it to retirement.
With this in mind, what would you do if someone armed was coming towards you ummm?
Maybe we need to wait for full facts before jumping to any conclusion one way or another?

/// It's probably just me but I don't believe that story. ///
/// A teen pulls a gun on a police officer but the officer managed to kill the teen without the teen shooting. Doesn't sound right. It sounds like it's written to justify why yet another black kid has been shot. ///
Would it had been more acceptable to you if the teenager had shot the officer first?

He fired several shots? why? Do the US police not have the same level of training that U.K and Swiss police have?
Maybe he should look at retiring now because it seems his judgement might have been flawed.
Like Ummmm said, you would of thought that the 'criminal' would have at least discharged his weapon unless as douglas9401 has mentioned, it was either unloaded, fake or had a feed issue. Either way if that was the case you would of assumed the kid would of dropped the firearm and give himself up. It seems like the officer just panicked and discharged his firearm several time irresponsibly.

Does seem to be habit forming
///He said one of the men pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the officer.
Detectives said they recovered the dead man's weapon at the scene.///
Regards the Officer shooting first, if you've never shot at a person before you may hesitate, thinking the threat would be enough, if you've been trained to use firearms, given those circumstances, you won't hesitate.

anotheoldgit: The way I was trained was to discharge, then assess before proceeding to discharge again. This can be done in milliseconds by a well trained officer. If he was in fact doing his job correctly then it must mean that the teen was still in possession of the firearm and was still aiming it at the officer or other bystanders.
Either way it's once again, a tragic loss of life.

"They obviously so upset about this shooting so much so that they didn't miss the opportunity to try a bit of looting in the meantime. "

mind you to be fair i cant see any reports of looting or rioting over the two cops that were murdered in their car ...strange that...maybe i just havent scoured the press closely enough..
