Annie was previously a white girl with ginger hair, now a black actress is portraying her nothing wrong with that one may say, but then it is when this kind of thing kicks off.
What will be the fall out if we ever get a black James Bond, which has been suggested?

The advertisers should have maintained the continuity by featuring a black model.
You would have asked the question, in 1982, had a black girl modelled the outfits worn by Aileen Quinn....

One of the leaked emails from the recent Sony hack, was from an executive, putting forward the idea of Idris Elba playing James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves the role.
Mr Elba was one of several names put forward, but 'certain people' have subsequently spent much of the past week frothing at the mouth, hollering 'It's PC gone mad' etc etc.

By 'their sensitivity' are you talking about those who say that Annie should be a white gingers-haired girl (as evidenced by the Twitter posts in the link), or those who have signed the petition calling for Target to change their advertising?
I think I might agree with you that people are being a bit over-sensitive. The number of Daily Mail readers who were spitting feathers because of the black stormtrooper in the new Star Wars trailer was absolutely pathetic.
Same with those who protested against the idea of a black man playing Bond.
Some people really need to re-evaluate what is important in life.
This campaign against Target's advertising falls into the same bracket as those banging on about Bond and Star Wars.
These are all FICTIONAL CHARACTERS...
People would be better served tackling real racism...there's plenty to go round!

I'm afraid I'm in the 'No' camp for Idris. I think he would make an excellent Bond...but the timing is all wrong. Daniel Craig is (I believe) contracted to appear in two more Bond films. Looking at the release schedule for the most recent Bonds (approx every three years), the first post-Craig movie could be up to nine years away.
Idris would be 51 by then.
So my objection would be down to his age, rather than ethnicity.
A shame, really.

Who are these 'certain people' sp? Are they ABers because I don't think the matter has been discussed on AnswerBank yet, has it?

/// If Idris Elba played James Bond I would probably watch it. I haven't watched any of the others..///
That's a little racist of you, ummmm."
I disagree,
ummmm may choose not to watch Bond films because she doesn't like any of the actors used, up to and including Mr Craig.
She may like Mr Elba as an actor, and admire his work, and tune in to see what sort of Bond he makes.
The issue of his skin colour, or that of the other actors is not in sight in her view - only, it seems, in yours.

Perhaps it is encouraged by the way some get upset at white people blacking up to play black roles or being offended by innocent shows such as the Black & White Minstrels?

Oh so you have set yourself up to speak on ummmm's behalf have you Andy, but how on earth do you know what is in her mind?
Or even mine it would seem.
Best to stick to things that you definitely know of.
