/// "Despite the laws that claim to protect gay people from homophobic bullying, the truth is that, in schools especially, bullying is still incredibly common and causes young people to feel isolated and alienated, which often leads to truanting and, in the worst-case scenarios, to suicide.” ///

Yes it may prevent homophobic bullying, but it will not stop other forms of bulling.

And is this the way to make lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgende) pupils feel like a separate group, when we should be encouraging integration?

I think it is crazy! I think it would lead to more bullying, not less.
Not more segregation ? How's that going to teach acceptance & tolerance ?
Likely to stay common if one does things like that. Especially if one group can point to the other and claim they have it better at their school.
It's a crazy idea. Also, why are transgender people and those who sometimes sleep with others of the same sex as their own all lumped together under the banner LBGT? The two things have no similarity to each other.
Do they mean the children of LGBT or the chidren themselves? Either way it's a disasterously horrific monumentallly stupid idea.
Just another example of the brainwashing and social engineerig so beloved by our liberel left
I can't see how it would help. Bullies will just pick some other reason to pick on their poor victims. Before long they will have schools for different racial groups or kids with different hair colours.

I think a school for gingers would be good...
except our government aren't the liberal left are they? isn't the majority conservative? So perhaps we should be saying "this is all down to those right wing idiots"?
Btw it's a rubbish idea
//...perhaps we should be saying "this is all down to those right wing idiots"?//

No we shouldn’t be saying that. This isn’t a government project – it’s something LGBT Youth North West is planning and the scheme has simply been awarded a government grant towards a feasibility study.

No, it’s not a good idea.
Fragmentation of society - complete idiocy.

I don't care whose idea it is but it's a really bad idea.
but the government has given them a 60k+ grant to undertake the study - bloody idiot conservatives ;)
Plenty of kids are picked on at school for being overweight so maybe they could create a special school for them too???

Do the education authorities really think that 'gay kids' will still not be picked on if they are at this special gay school? They'll probably be picked on even more when they are out of school
I do not understand this idea that bullying is rife in schools. It is not!
Bednobs, I’m tempted to say thank goodness we don’t have a Labour government – they’d have paid for the school to be built! But I won’t. £60,000 is peanuts and the grant, awarded by the Department for Communities and Local Government, would no doubt have been given by any flavour government. As an aside, can you imagine the reaction if the request had been turned down. Homophobia!!

Joeluke, this isn't an education authorities project.
Where do the kids who are struggling with their exual identity go?

Sexual
Tilly - people have different ideas of bullying. Teasing is often called bullying but I think they are different.
'Where do the kids who are struggling with their exual identity go? '

To a normal state school like the rest of the kids
