pop star JAMELIA, on the Loose Women panel today, said "You're not supposed to say Mixed Race anymore -the correct term is Dual Heritage". We're you aware of this?

She has probably been told by some white middle class meddler what the new term for mixed race is.
It makes no sense to me.
http:// www.oxf orddict ionarie s.com/d efiniti on/engl ish/dua l-herit age
EXAMPLE SENTENCES
In the U.S., for example, the dual heritage of many biracial children is virtually invisible.
Many parents will want their biracial children to self-identify in a way that reflects their dual heritage.
Based on a true story, three sisters are ordered by the Australian government to be placed in a special facility for children of dual heritage.
So we still use biracial then?

/// You asked:
"Why is that certain parts of our society are given the exclusive right to choose what does or may cause offence?" ///
/// I don't think that's quite true though, is it? ///
/// I would suggest that there are subsets of words that offend many different groups, and my guess is that you have a set (like the 'B' word) that offend you. ///
/// Is that incorrect? ///
All that you say may be correct SP but have any of those words been removed from the English language, no longer to be used?
Yes it is in the real world, we are not just talking about what some say on this site, but even if you are some words are censored out, were as Old Git etc would not be.
/// I distinctly recall you getting very offended when another AB contributor referred to you as Git (despite this being part of your username). ///
I have many times explained why I chose that name, but I will repeat it again, in those early days of my membership there was a TV programme where a group of persons of advanced years gathered to discuss in a light-hearted fashion issues effecting real life, I think it was called 'Old Gits' or similar, so I decided to add to their membership and be given a voice on AB. by calling myself anotheoldgit, and the reason that I left the 'R' out was because once one was only allowed to have no more than 12 letters in one's username.

/// Everyone has a right to choose what offends them, I have the right to think they are being oversensitive or precious. ///
Yes but you are missing the point, have all the right to get certain words that offend them, removed from the English language, deemed forever never to be spoken or written ever again?

And I find the NO answer a little lacking given the thread it appeared in tbh!

I've been on here far too long not to notice a little ground bait being scatted, so I am afraid you will have to be content, and gain your rather strange enjoyment from others, who must also hold certain words that are offensive to them, in the hope that they may be removed from the English language.

"I came back to this to give Hypno both barrels. But on reflection, not wanting to get banned, I'll just say I heartily agree with you Naomi."
Since she was expressing practically the same sentiments as me, why are you chummy with her but want to let off "both barrels" at me?
Every chance you get, you come back with a put-down, in place of a coherent argument. Why is that?

/// AOG...you can't compare being called a Brit with the P*ki word. The reason it became offensive to call someone a P*ki is because it was used for all people. How would you, as an Englishman, like to be referred to as a Paddy? ///
Wouldn't offend me at all I would just correct that person and say that I am not Irish but English.
/// The reason it became offensive to call someone a P*ki is because it was used for all people. ///
By that I presume you do not really mean "all people" but only those originating from the Indian sub-continent.
If I am correct in my interpretation of your statement, does that mean it is also offensive to call someone from Nigeria, African or even Afro?

Has the PM oftern says:
I refer you to the answer that I gave earlier 12:15 Wed 28th Jan 2015.
But no I will explain;
That question of yours was a personal question asked by you and to be replied by myself.
It was not a question put up for general AnswerBank debate, and since I had on numerous occasions been asked the very same question and I had (as I have earlier) given the reason for the missing 'R' which was also verified by the ED himself, I found that "NO" was an appropriate enough answer to your query.

I can't help viewing your attitude to 'Brit' as faux offence, with the purpose of mocking the offence which the P word (and others) caused.
If the word was delivered at me with the contemptuous inflection and facial expression (optional spittle) of a sterotypical Union-Jack-clad skinhead, then I might be able to empathise with your point of view.
It's the smug sense of superiority which gets people down. That's how racial labels began and that is why they should be brought to an end.
Historical authenticity merely stirs up the sediments every time we get anywhere near comfortably settled.
On the other hand, I do see PC-ness as an exercise in crowd pleasing. It's the way politicians try to indulge every section of the crowd because they'd stoop to any depths to get votes.
If you're not a politician, or have no other reason to make yourself popular, then why bother being PC? You'll only drive away the people whose habits you already express a dislike for.

/// p*ki was and is used as a racist abuse, i speak from experience and i don't come from the indian sub continent ///
Perhaps you would care to tell us of what nationality your parents come from?
Regarding the P*ki word who deemed if offensive enough not to be used?
Would it be abusive to state "I am going to the P*ki shop on the corner" knowing full well that the owner was from Pakistan, but you didn't know their name?
And would it also be offensive to say "I am going to call on that Pole to fix the tap"?
