I still think it's weird that Israel compete in Eurovision, but really, AUSTRALIA!!!
Apparently a one-off, and they can only return if they win.
Guess who's gonna win this year then?

Pocket_Rocket - "Question Author But the point is, Australia isn't European - nor is Israel." The eligibility for countries is not geographical - you don't need to be physically within the European borders to enter the contest. The criteria is being a country that receives broadcasts from the Eurovision broadcast network, Israel does, and so does...

we arent being inclusive here pocket rocket

if the freedom loving ozzies want to enter and sing Waltzing Matilda
well let them and they may waltz off with the child
At yone weekend, I had a dream that the United Kingdom came seventh in the Eurovision Song Contest.

I really need to start having less boring dreams.
if the Australians can get lawn mowing into the Olympic opening ceremony, Eurovision might well be worth a watch
They should drop 'Eurovision' from the title and let any country that cares to enter have a go.

That would rather defeat the object of the exercise wouldn't it?

Since the contest is organised by Eurovision, they can't really take them out of the title.
Israel, and now Australia, have been accepted. It's hardly European now.
I will laugh if they win.

They would have to hold the event next year.

I doubt if Greece could afford to send their entry down under.
Heard someone on radio 2 today saying that even if the Aussies were to win, the event would have to be held in Europe next year. Didn't hear if any reason was given.
