Football is not institutionally racist, but unfortunately it attracts among its supporters a minority culture – the culture that views rugby supporters as ‘toffs’. As Mikey says, it’s a matter of education because basically they’re idiots and I don’t believe their attitude represents football supporters as a whole. I agree with Snafu. I doubt they would have let a white person with an Arsenal shirt on either.
It is not really football that is racist. Society has a small element that is racist. So among any football crowd there is bound to be some racists.
It is less of a problem in Rugby because attendances at Rugby matches are about a tenth of those of Football matches. That is why if there is any trouble, it tends to be at the bigger international matches and not at club level. Though less of a problem, there are racists who watch Rugby. Here is an example from a few weeks ago...
// The Rugby Football Union has launched an investigation into alleged homophobic and racial abuse of the Welsh referee Nigel Owens by a group of England supporters during the defeat by New Zealand at Twickenham last Saturday. //

Racism will never go away whilst you have things like 'Black Actor Awards' or any special group setup for a particular ethnicity since it appears total hypocrisy.
Education, or social engineering wont work on it's own either. It needs total integration and acceptance of all and that will only happen with the passage of time.

I don't think football is institutionally racist any more.
However, some people are willing to excuse this behaviour and shift the blame elsewhere, when the blame should be placed squarely on the men in the carriage.
The so-called 'Black Actor' awards (God only knows what they are - never heard of them myself) have nothing to do with this thuggish behaviour, because knuckle-draggers like these have existed for decades.

Ummmm, they've been stabbing and attacking English fans for years as well as racially abusing players and might get a few thousand euro fine.
Anything involving English fans like those chavvy Chelsea idiots last night and everyone wants to get involved.
Jude apparently he's not racist according to the courts
