Apropo of Gadd's insistence that 'The public still want me, everywhere I go they shout 'Alright Gary...'
Gadd should learn the lesson of Kevin Rowland, late of Dexys Midnight Runners who enjoyed massive success, and fell from grace. No doubt people used to shout 'Kevin!' in the street, and maybe still do.
In the 19800's, in a classic 'Emperor's New Clothes' scenario, no less a luminary than Alan McGee, discoverer of Oasis, put out an album of Rowland's featuring him in a dress. The album sold less than a thousand copies.
Rowland appeared at Reading Festival with girl dancers whom he stroked as he sang 'The Greatest Love Of All. You can wow the media, but the public are a different issue - Rowland was duly booed and the bottled off.
