If there is a 'de facto' ban in place then,if he attends, he should be told to leave and if he refuses he should be forcibly removed.
Yes and the people who invited him should be sorted out as well.
There is an argument that you can't argue with someone from a position of strength until you have heard what he has to say.

And I mean heard all he has to say - not the just the headline-grabbing rhetoric.

If Mr Choudry is engaged in a properly organised and managed debate, it will be an opportunity to learn something about the reasons for his hatred of Western culture, and maybe to have him listen to some opposing views, which may even impact on his own position.

It certainly beats getting information only from the media.
All while t may has 14 enquires and does nothing
Students are just so politically naive at times. I mean, seriously. I'm all for freedom of speech and diverse views being presented, but then that doesn't mean there is an obligation to give a platform. A line has to be drawn somewhere, no?
This is the UK, Speak evil " get away will it" "Preach on street corners" get a pat on the back, Pensioner looses her son by thugs, threatened by eviction, this is THE UK.
"If Mr Choudry is engaged in a properly organised and managed debate, it will be an opportunity to learn something about the reasons for his hatred of Western culture" - I bet he doesn't hate us enough to refuse his benefits eh?
I'd guess the people who would debate with him would have fairly sharp wits. His bigotry could be clearly exposed and I can't see him making any converts.

Exactly sandy.

People would have a choice to hear exactly what his views are, and why, and challenge him on those views.

It's a rare opportunity to see what actually goes on in the minds of people who preach such hatred and destruction - and more importantly, to question it closely.

Do the many YouTube videos lie?

His bigotry could be clearly exposed.........you would need a sharp wit? Lol lol

Sharp wits would help in forensically dissecting his arguments.

My point is not that the information conveying the atrocities of extremism is not accurate, but that it does not give direct reasons for the motivations behind them.

My perception is that people like Mr Choudry and his supporters hate Western culture with a depth and ferocity that is truly terrifying.

What I would welcome is an opportunity to hear why he feels this way, and an opportunity to try and reason with him, and maybe find a way forward.

It has to be worth taking the opportunity.
Sandy, no need for any forensics, even inspector Clouseau could expose him.
// an opportunity to try and reason with him //

Yeah, that'll definately work. He ' hates Western culture with a depth and ferocity that is truly terrifying.' , but if we can just talk things through, he'll surely be able to see the error of his ways.

A friendly little chat over a nice cup of tea ... that's the answer. ;o)

Just because my point is a straightforward one does not invalidate it.

There are two ways to deal with Muslim extremism - one is military invasion, and the other is dialogue.

The first has been seen to spectacularly and tragically fail, so why not try the second?

We cross posted - please see my response to Ludwig.
I saw it.
Andy Hughes, when did this military invasion take place?
